Great reviews of yours. Comprehensive and complete. And heartfelt. Well done. The song you mention, in my opinion, is called "a sad sadness song." But do you happen to be a fan of Current, by any chance?

but no. it's clear that the ADs are on a different level compared to Puff Daddy. it’s just that in the native tongues project, the idea was to clean rap from aggressive trends and "hippyfied" it, and it seems to me that this is somewhat equivalent to distorting it. in fact, de la soul (who, among all, I think are the first and best alongside black sheep) then took a bit of a step back, sound-wise, compared to 3 feet high. god bless danceable hip hop. I shake my ass, sciatica permitting, and how. not that it’s a pretty sight, mind you...

In fact, I didn’t talk about protest, but rather about anger. And there’s a sea of difference between the two. Moreover, the whole thing about "raising your voice to the microphone" is your own invention. I was talking about the adherence between stylistic canon (which carries weight in a genre as "structured" as rap) and the message conveyed. Here it seems to me that the component of aggressiveness, which I consider an integral part of hip hop culture, is missing – without that, you have chart-topping R'n'B, you have Puff Daddy. The same goes for the rest of the Native Tongues. I’m not sure what Sugarhill Gang, Afrika Bambaataa, and the others you mention have to do with it. And then, speaking of anger and innovators, have you ever heard "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash? There, he doesn't "raise his voice to the microphone," the beats are super funky, and yet, oh my God, is there anger.

And anyway, hugoniot, I didn't mean to offend anyone. It was just for the sake of the joke.

No. To fill the gaps, or to create new ones, as I already said, talent is needed. That’s where innovation comes from. Otherwise, you’re just the Venetian rondò.
