@dopesmoker you've sparked a very interesting debate; I also love Unknown Pleasures and I understand your point of view. I think Hannet did a great job with Joy Division, and you're right that there's more physicality in Unknown, but I've always thought that was intentional. After all, even Ian in Closer was a bit less metaphorical, so to speak. Moreover, regarding the comparison between Closer and other second albums, I think it's a bit peculiar in the sense that Closer is indeed a second album, but it also came out as a final album in the sense that it was born dead, and more than the strength of a reaffirmation, it is for me an admission of a personal and epochal defeat, at least according to the author.

Are we kidding? This movie could have been nice if it weren't for that crappy ending; come on, what a joke is that ending with the guy getting his face smashed in half and those poor man's Matrix effects. Ugh. From the insights of 1984, something much more decent could have been extracted.

Great review for a very interesting film - the remake is obviously terrible, while the original, as you said, is definitely ahead of its time and subtly tragicomic. Well done on the review and the choice!
