... you're right about the half marks, I probably would have given them 4.5, as much as numbers can matter...

A review as dry as the album, which is my favorite by PJ (and honestly, the only one I really like... raw, edgy, like never before...)

To me, I don't know why (maybe it's the 'space trumpets') "summer of '68" reminds me of things like tekkaman...

I almost forgot, the most beautiful cover of the Floyd... remember: we listened to it in the car before climbing Vesuvius, very 'live at Pompeii'... mega-meeting on Vesuvius?

Well, I see that everyone more or less agrees on 'echoes' and 'one of these days'; for me, 'pillow of winds' is stunning, 'fearless' is a great song, 'seamus' is curious and 'saint tropez', mmmm... it is what it is... anyway, the last two tracks add, in my opinion, a naive touch that prevents the album from being too "heavy"; moreover, it’s better when each one wrote their own pieces (with Wright free to do his silly things) than the total control of Waters. To be honest, my favorite album post-Barrett is this one, along with 'more', but I’m biased, too many memories... @ Hal: I had the Arcana book with the lyrics and it said 'rita pavone'; also, if I remember correctly, it was mentioned in the biographical part - Wright must have thought, if you're going to be kitsch, you might as well go all the way.. ;)

What can I say? I don’t listen to much rap, but this is the best I’ve ever heard. As soon as I listened to 'iron galaxy', it started to become one of my favorite tracks to blast in my headphones; it’s rare for a rap song to give me chills, but this one kept giving them to me for quite a while. This is to say that, beyond its formal originality, it’s truly a dark 'soul' album (in this sense, the comparison with 'what's goin' on' makes sense, even if the elegance of that record is transformed here into dark blows like pitch) - more than once I found myself thinking of this album as a rap equivalent of 'al dilà della vita' (if that’s what it’s called...), that heavy Scorsese film with a very dark New York, post-end-of-the-world... I know the lyrics are beautiful, but records like this manage to make you not regret not understanding them; they communicate in an 'other' way...

Alè, vani... (I would have given you a 5 even if you wrote: jerk!) But are you talking about dreams-dreams or dreams=deep desires? Because sometimes I have such strange dreams that just experiencing them in a dreamlike way is enough for me (like, I find myself in a scuffle and suddenly someone stabs me in the balls...). Assuming you're referring more to the latter, well, they are a nasty beast... you need them; if you chase them and catch them, they might disappoint you, but I believe that the time spent chasing them is one of the most vivid and worthwhile moments to live, mumble, mumble...

'So Sunday sat on Saturday's sun / and cried for a day gone by' (forgive me Hal if I partially correct you...); I have always loved the fact that Nick said this sad and, in part, dreadful line with a tone and music that strokes your head, comforting you... but the words do not convey anything.

I bought it some time ago... he was gone, but the record brought back his ghost, reminding me (perhaps a bit smugly) through its music that the subtle sadness that often accompanies beauty is perhaps the best way to feel wonderfully alive...

oh.... finally I read one of your reviews (wow, the first one): great approach! I really like the internalized perspective on it (especially for albums about which you can read anything everywhere) (if not too 'isolationist')...
