Well, in the face of such an intense and profound masterpiece, my tendency is to remain silent... however, I force myself to say something; I want to emphasize how, for a work like this, talking about future influences is of secondary importance: for instance, does it really matter to point out Michelangelo's Pietà as a seminal work? I make this example not by chance... indeed (I hope I’m not talking nonsense) 'laughing stock' seems to have been inspired by the death of a friend, and in any case, its theme appears to be the relationship with death understood as a passage that the survivors grapple with. I find analogies: the same elegant sensitivity, technical mastery at the service of an intimate lyricism, not grandiloquent; they evoke different sensations in me, however: while the Pietà prevails with a warmth-laden serenity, in this album Hollis struggles (and sometimes aligns) torment and ecstasy, but never with anger... 6 unforgettable 'prayers'.
