Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here

...after all, Gilmour and co. did not hesitate to take Waters to court to keep the name Pink Floyd alive... what’s in a name? Was it just a matter of principle that led to long legal disputes? Or was there perhaps also an interest in capitalizing on a 'brand' that, as we know, is commercially very appealing?

Well, regarding the vexata quaestio of why the Pink Floyd were 'infamous' with Syd... some questions: why didn't they abandon the brand name "Pink Floyd" (chosen by Syd) after leaving Barrett? How come, if Syd was as fried as 'some' say, he was still able to release two solo albums? (Moreover, he didn't want to record them because being exiled from his band crushed him to the point that he fell out of love with music - it was Gilmour, it seems, who convinced him; at the same time, with some dubious interventions in the control room (like letting Barrett be heard mumbling catatonically in an intro to a song), he contributed to the myth of the deranged artist). Couldn't they reintegrate him? So what's the point of singing 'we wish you were here'? Was it Waters' conscience (in this case, at least he had some remorse) that needed an outlet? (One could say, given that the theme of madness and the abandoned friend recurs often in Floyd's work)

let me mention a few exceptions, imho, of course: Massimo Volume (I recommend 'lungo i bordi'), Almamegretta (I recommend 'sanacore')

Well... you see Francis, I really appreciated your ultra-passionate review; at the same time, I made that joke in my post to exaggerate (the same exaggeration that, for me, characterizes your analysis) a feature of your review: this album, as mentioned, I like; however, talking about it being the best opening track in rock seems to me moooolto exaggerated (I can think of – my very personal judgment, of course, like any opinion – the opening of 'isn't anything' by MBV, 'breadcrumb trail' by Slint, or, to talk about albums that smell even more of history, the opening tracks of 'forever changes', 'astral weeks', 'beggar's banquet', the shouted intro of 'kick out the jams', etc. etc.); it seems exaggerated to talk about chairs to the right of John Lennon: Oasis wrote, on par with Lennon, beautiful 'gut' songs that hit you like few others, but Lennon often added (like others in rock history – or pop in a broad sense) originality – a quality that I believe you would also agree to recognize in the Mancunians to some extent – just think of 'tomorrow never knows', 'strawberry fields forever', 'happiness is a warm gun'; Lennon often brought a sharp, often touching songwriting that I don't find in Oasis – well, I haven't read the lyrics of this album, but I know those of the previous ones, and none measure up to 'in my life', 'revolution', or even 'come together'... ultimately, the best Oasis are a band that has made my life better, on the same level, for example, as Teenage Fanclub, bands that I’m very happy to listen to, but in terms of absolute value (considering also other stimuli that are not purely 'gut') they fall short compared to many others; for this reason, I find your review, as much as I can see you put your heart into it, a bit over the top; that said, I hope to listen to the tracks from this album in some nice pub while drunk, I will definitely enjoy it... hola

Wow, what a big blow job! This is pornography, dear Francis... However, I kind of like the album, rather, I admit, it's pleasant...

Alright, I know it too... it's a nice album, seems pretty funk to me, but the best part is the song titles ('do you want new wave or do you want the truth?' - 'political song for michael jacksoon to sing' - 'maybe partying will help' - 'god bows to math' - 'the roar of the masses could be farts'....); oh, and then this thing about the 'car jam' in the titles is kind of unsettling, considering d.boon died - I think - in a car accident...

In short, they only appeal to me and a bunch of self-styled alternatives with their noses in the air... oh wait! there's Puglia, great Puglia! But I feel a bit like the guy at the nougat stand who hasn't sold a damn thing at the village festival (I'd add bastards... :D)
