a bit of a generalization from the anonymous commenter above... but why do we always treat everything the same? long live funk & soul

The God Machine Scenes From The Second Storey

great band, great album, that I generally listen to once a year... a few other words, for me the description you give, zigghio (the story of jane's addiction deported to teheran etc.) is spot on

errata corrige: "I'm not saying that Syd was NOT definitely out"...

well... here a conflict between sources clearly arises: at this point neither I nor anyone else (I suppose) can give more credit to one voice over another, so it’s right to only assess the facts... thus: two albums by Syd minimally comparable to 'the piper' - true, but in reality what’s missing is not so much the quality of the songwriting (which I think is excellent) but the instrumental contribution of the band that was no longer there; I have always viewed the songs from 'barret' and 'madcap laughs' almost as demo versions for the group... albums that reflect entirely Syd’s madness - it’s an opinion, of course, but his two albums don’t seem that far out to me, rather much more 'normal' than 'the piper'... open, you didn't answer me on why not abandon the trading name once excluded the person who was its main representative at the beginning... it was impossible to reintegrate him, they had tried but it didn’t work - I’m not saying Syd was definitely 'out of it', especially in '68, but his albums show that, difficult or not to work with, he was capable of bringing something out from studio work at least; to be clear, I don’t want to just blame the Floyd, they had a band that had built a small fame, yes, but it was a solid foundation to build upon (as subsequent events would prove), I realize that the idea of risking missing the chance to do what they liked and make a living from it put them in front of a difficult decision; however, that said, it must be viewed in a different light from what is usually done with 'homages' like 'wish you were here', which are, for me, more an attempt to rebuild through art an intimate dialogue (or even speaking to one’s own soul) by Waters with a person with whom he never managed to communicate much (again, questionable sources: it seems that Syd and Roger were not so 'in tune').
Tim Buckley Lorca

mmm... first of all, I bear witness! I LOVE Tim Buckley and I'm not the only one among my friends... I started with 'Lorca' (I don't remember if I had already listened to Jeff) and, having read wonderful things about his voice, I was a bit perplexed and disappointed; I thought: is this it? But I knew I had to give him some time... I later discovered with great joy 'Happy Sad', 'Goodbye and Hello', and 'Starsailor' - all perhaps more enjoyable - but this album kept growing and growing, and if I have to say which is the best of Buckley, well, I think I would agree with you, ajeje... this album is an experience that drains you (like 'Grace', but in diametrically opposed ways; and probably more effective). I really appreciated the review, by the way, even though you weren't 'dry' like 'Lorca' ;)
