May 27, 2005. Finally, the new album from the Gallagher brothers is released after a long and troubled wait lasting a full 3 years. "The best since Morning Glory" says Noel, after firing Death in Vegas and drummer Alan White (which doesn't cause much of a stir since it's the Oasis).
And indeed, the album is really good, quite distant from the band's 90s style and it's noticeable. The tracks, in fact, are more "stripped down" compared to the good old days, but still always direct and sincere.
Liam's voice remains the one from Heathen Chemistry even though, in tracks like "Love Like a Bomb" and the big ballad "Let There Be Love", it drags you in and involves you throughout the entire track, never leaving your ear. Exactly these two tracks, together with the single "Lyla" and Andy Bell's excellent effort "Keep The Dream Alive", are the best moments of Don't Believe The Truth. Certainly, even Noel's new discoveries ("Mucky Fingers" and "The Importance of Being Idle") deserve applause, as they create a pleasant and above all new atmosphere for those who have been listening to the Oasis for years. "Turn Up The Sun", on the other hand, could have fit well in Heathen Chemistry, although the piano part adds a touch of originality that perhaps wouldn't have been there 3 years ago.
And this is precisely the theme of the album, the originality compared to the past, with all four band members writing songs. They are no longer just Noel Gallagher's Oasis, so, Don't Believe... also represents hope for the future.
Moreover, not to be forgotten, the band still has around 40 songs in store for future albums. In conclusion, the album may not be a masterpiece, but it contains 4 excellent songs and, as already mentioned, it could pave the way for ever better albums, the result of collaboration among the 4 musicians.
The hopes of those (almost) everyone can safely be said to have been repaid in the best way.
'Turn Up The Sun'—a jewel of the album, showing the band’s change and harder, engaging sound.
This is a MILESTONE, people, a MILESTONE.
'Turn Up The Sun'... perhaps the best opening track in rock history.
Oasis hit the mark by producing an album that contains just one thing: ROCK!
‘Let There Be Love’ ... The alternating voices of the brothers make it all more magical.
"I think 'don’t believe...' is a beautiful album that recalls the carefree spirit of 'Definitely Maybe' while innovating with original songs."
‘‘It’s unacceptable to dismiss with quick insults a band that has contributed so much to rock music over two decades.’
Don’t Believe The Truth is a great album, probably the best English rock CD released this year.
'The Importance Of Being Idle' is probably the most refined song Oasis have ever made.
