Ahhh... I can trash this record: in my opinion, it's mainly a concentrate of self-indulgence, swagger, and pride (just the title 'timeless'...); after all, Goldie is the type who will go on to create a suite of about seventy hours dedicated to his mother, on the level of Yanni... (nothing against the idea of a piece about one's mother, it's the execution that bothers me); even here (there are still some nice tracks, though...) it sometimes gets dull, and at other times it resorts to somewhat clichéd tricks (the crying in 'sea of tears', with a melodic fusion-style background music); then the girl’s voice in 'timeless' makes me cringe, I remember the video where she raised her hands up towards the camera while attempting a high note and, well, it was a crummy 'high note', flat and incapable of moving me... sorry.

lately when I listen to this record I am amazed at how simple and, at the same time, profoundly meaningful 'mansion on the hill' is: a serene folk piece (without even a chorus, if I'm not mistaken) serving as a backdrop to the words of the child who watches in fascination the villa, who hides to hear the sounds and laughter when his father takes him and his sister up the hill, and who, upon returning down, lifts his gaze to see it again. A few essential strokes to convey the charm and a (veiled) sadness for the impossibility of crossing into a fenced world, which is always there, obsessively, fiercely, in front (above) your eyes.

I'm back from the front... uh, the dead one wasn't John, who released several albums after the band dissolved in the early Seventies, the last one (?) in '98; it was his brother Tom who passed away, dying of tuberculosis in '90; the Creedence Clearwater Revisited (not 'Revived', which actually means nothing) are Cosmo and Stu (the rhythm section) plus a couple of cool guys (at least from the photos) who are continuing their history on zerozz... and anyway, I discovered them thanks to The Big Lebowski (who cares), Creedence and white russian...

I don't know much about the fate of Creedence, it seems to me that (maybe now I'm touching my balls) John Fogerty is dead, but nonetheless they still tour reformed under the name 'Creedence Clearwater Revived' and a few years ago they came to Sparanise (!!!) which means nothing to you, but to me, writing from the big metropolis called Capua (province of Caserta) it means 'a hole in the world'... trù men, as this guy would say... I've got a collection of theirs with the wonderful 'Lookin' Out My Back Door', or the peace of getting high at home...

and mention for the cover, too bad about that writing which is at least acidly in tone...

I might like them, even though I wouldn’t say the latest Elliott Smith is exactly light... great suggestions, Sam, I agree...
