Pink Floyd The Piper At The Gates of Dawn

Beatboy has just left a comment in the forum about psychedelia, right after my post. This is a sign! Let's open a forum on the great figure of Syd Barrett! Or on Pink Floyd, who knows!

Hey, it’s true! You didn’t put the cover on! Probably no one had noticed!

I don't think he gave the album a 0: he simply didn't give any rating, and I don't blame him! Anyway, the review is very nice and makes valid points. Just one thing: I think you strayed a bit off-topic; you should have talked about the album and not about Barrett (yes, I know that discussing one thing without the other is impossible, but you could have said a few words about the album's content!). Your remarks would fit better in a forum than in a review—why not start a new forum on Debaser? I would definitely chime in (I reviewed the same album some time ago, but I got bombarded with a ton of insults because they said there were already too many reviews of the album!). Anyway, this is one of the best reviews of "The Piper," alongside Bardamù's, Anthon's, and... come on, allow me a bit of arrogance... mine. The others were dreadful. I, however, will give the album a rating.

The best way to talk about Malmsteen, good job!

Jason Becker is incredibly overrated, yet another clone of Malmsteen. He may be technically skilled, but "Perpetual Burn" is garbage. Of course, this is just my opinion, don’t get angry! I have the utmost respect for your views, but that guy really bores me to death!

Very respectable and interesting opinion. However, I hold different views on certain things you mentioned.

My idea is this: Barrett = one of the greatest geniuses of rock! It's a shame he burned out so early (but he managed to record some wonderful albums! "The Madcap Laughs" is amazing and "Barrett" is a good record, just "Opel" is a bit downbeat). His guitar style is due to the comparisons with his friend Gilmour, who taught him quite a few tricks. But the compositional style is all his own, and it’s magnificent! So great that it continues to influence the sound of the Floyd even after his departure (at least for two or three albums). Gilmour = one of the most interesting guitarists in the rock scene for melodic refinement and sound control (my favorite). Absolutely not technical but extremely elegant. While at first, he and Barrett played very similarly, Gilmour soon developed his own very personal style that characterized the sound of the Floyd in all their albums. As a composer though, he isn't as good: he’s a bit flat, not very original, and absolutely NOT-PSYCHEDELIC (this isn't a flaw, I just think it’s an important point). So Barrett is better as a musician and Gilmour is better as a guitarist. Anyway, don't get too annoyed with Killgod; he enjoys provoking but does so quite innocently in my opinion.

A particular album, I don't feel like giving it a rating. However, the review is excellent.

They don't drive me crazy, but they're not bad.
