Wait, Jethro, Zappa is one of the greatest geniuses in the history of rock, and that’s indisputable! But you have to admit that he had a productive fervor that led him to record anything that came to his mind, without any criteria! Therefore, in his immense production, many albums can indeed be overlooked (I’m not saying "thrown away," which would be nonsense).

I agree too, but I believe that at the time of The Dark Side they weren't using drugs. The drug phase was the first period, and it mainly involved Barrett; the others were fairly out of the loop. While it's quite natural to think that Waters might have used some substances in the very early days, it's not equally plausible to think that he was a habitual drug user. Of course, I wasn't there; I'm just relaying what Mason says. No one can, however, rule out the possibility that Mason is lying, but that's the official version.
