Porcupine Tree On The Sunday Of Life

I have changed my mind about them: now I find them really disgusting.

That's exactly the point; he is not an expert on Emerson, Lake, and Palmer! I could probably give him a lesson on that too! However, he knows rock in general very well, and the mechanisms that drive its evolution. I wasn’t suggesting reading the website to learn more about Emerson, Lake & Palmer; I recommended it because it allows you to discover other bands and, as I’ve already mentioned, it prompts reflection—not on Emerson and the others, but on music in general. Anyway, I confirm that I don't like the way he treats this band.

I'm re-evaluating Scaruffi. I hardly ever agree with him, but I'm starting to understand his point of view a bit. He's definitely not a fool; that's for sure. In fact, he seems like a very intelligent person. You should visit the site because it's a treasure trove of information, and because Scaruffi makes you reflect on aspects you might have always overlooked before. In the end, even if you stick to your own ideas, it was still constructive to read his reviews.

Well, I think you should still take a look.

Well, if he has it, I believe. Check it out for yourself on his site; he's reviewed way too many albums! Anyway, he claims to have grown up with classical music, and he only got into rock later on.

"I really think Pink Floyd suck. I mean, I put this album in the player and after 5 minutes of nothing, you hear the voice of some jerk. I was so disappointed. I thought they played rock for young people instead... what a drag. Long live Steve Vai!!! Great Stevesirovai, I don't share your opinion about the album but you had me laughing my head off!"

I was there too that evening at the social winery in Genazzano, but rather than listening to them, I drank. It’s not really my style, but I can confirm that they were very good, so if you like this kind of thing, go check them out!
Pink Floyd A Momentary lapse of reason
Voto:
"A momentary lapse of reason" winks at the Sinth pop generation; it’s just a commercial operation. An album that mimics the music of the era without any real personal contributions from the band. They are not Watersian; at most, they are Barrettian if we really want to! But in reality, I’m not a fan; I’m just a music enthusiast. Anyway, I like all of the Floyd (except "A momentary lapse of reason"). I just think that some are, besides being enjoyable, also historical, while others are not.

I'm not an employee, however what I wanted to say is that "The Dark Side" is a soft version of psychedelia, enjoyable even by people who don't even know who the Red Crayola, the 13th Floor Elevators, etc., are. "The Wall" is the peak of melodic talent expressed by Waters throughout his career, perhaps only matched by "Amused to Death," which however seems to recycle "The Wall" itself. I don't deny that it has its weak points, but the melodic level is sublime and makes the work immense in its entirety. There are many tracks that seem less inspired but, apart from two or three exceptions, they are actually pieces with very complex and original melodies that require a trained ear. I know the lyrics of Animals perfectly; they are of excellent quality considering the average level of lyrics in English, but I absolutely cannot consider them masterpieces. As for the quotes from Orwell and the Bible, well, I am not easily impressed by these things. And anyway, even though it has nice lyrics, I've already told you that I evaluate the work in its entirety, and the music would diminish any text. It's not a bad album; I say it's unnecessary because it adds nothing new to what has already been done, that's all! Since it's there, I listen to it with pleasure, but if they hadn't made it, we wouldn't have lost much; the musical ideas are the same as previous albums.

Porcupine Tree disgust me. Anyway, Floyd found their identity after Barrett’s departure, but only after going through a transitional phase ("More", "Obscured by Clouds," etc.). Essentially, they found it with "The Dark Side of the Moon," and from this point on, Waters would be clearly dominant over the others, and their sound would stabilize around well-defined characteristics (whereas in the previous albums they tried quite different things in search of a new language). "Summer of '68" has absolutely nothing wrong with it, it's a nice piece, but it can't be compared to their very early works, which are a perfect synthesis of five years of experiments in the American and English underground, plus some brilliant new ideas. "Summer of '68" is a fairly simple song; you don't have to be a genius to write it, I've heard many songs of that type. I don’t listen to music and lyrics separately; the song is valuable in its entirety. I think it’s barbaric to consider it as music + lyrics. The music of "If" is so boring that the lyrics don’t even matter. "The Dark Side of the Moon" is still a valid example for all sound technicians, for sure, but it’s no longer the peak of what’s achievable. You have to take into account the information technology revolution and the technological developments in effects, amplifiers, mixers, cables, etc. Not to mention that today's technicians have a much broader knowledge base. I didn’t say anything against "Us and Them," I like it a lot; I simply forgot about it. But I have nothing against the album in general; I just think it’s a bit overrated.
