I know there are basic rules for writing an article and, more specifically, a review; these change somewhat for a live show, but for a live show by "Marta Sui Tubi" they pretty much go out the window because it’s more of an experience than a concert.

Getting to "Genazzano" from Rome is quite the journey, at some point, the road is just curves and darkness; it feels like you'll never arrive... But then the social cellar is a former distillery, the event seems wonderful, the food's good, and the "Marta" guys are always super friendly (with some fun Norwegian musicians in tow this time) and, on top of that, they were in their "origins" version, just guitar and voice. I've always had the pleasure of hearing them with Ivan on drums and was quite curious about this novelty. But this time, I got the upper hand; at the Circolo they had removed "ti mento" from the setlist and I threatened to give them a terrible review if they tried that again. So... thank you DeBaser...

Now, on to the concert; they opened with "Via Dante" (with an unpublished intro and classic closure by bobbysoliana) and continued with "Cenere" and "Muscoli e Dei," then in the middle of "L'equilibrista" there's a spectacular bluesy interlude, we get to "Stitichezza Cronica" with another interlude, at the tables in the first row there are only people who don't miss a note with faces like children in front of a billion-piece Lego set (I've always gone crazy for Legos...), we reach "Il Giorno del Mio Compleanno" then "Volè" and the always splendid and sly "Vecchi Difetti." At this point, I notice an annoying buzz from the back, a part of the Genazzano audience was chatting as if it were any night in any brewery, with the little group enjoying their evening. I try to rise above it... but...

Anyway, here we are at "Sei Dicembre" immediately followed by "Ti Mento" (scary huh...) immediately followed by "L'Abbandono" and "31 Lune" before stepping off the stage. My friends had never seen Marta live and were amazed, plus I play with two of them so we were in a state of ecstatic admiration...
Because I think if you have a band and listen to them, you go through different phases during the concert. I start with admiration, then move to envy, get to "a lot of envy" right before the admiration and their transformation into golden calves, and finally tell myself that we play two different genres anyway and, for no reason, I end up liking them, actually there's a reason! Because they are musicians (their words) and because they are great professionals who deserve much more (my words).

Anyway, at this point, one of the Norwegian musicians (forgive me, I don't know his name) started shouting that it was Friday night and that we needed to make some noise. And the worst part was, he was right. So they got back on stage with the Norwegians, one on trumpet and the other on guitar, and started a nice jam before closing with "Le Cose Cambiano."

Applause.

I grabbed the setlist and immediately saw that "Post" was scheduled as the closure... well, I’ll have something to threaten them with at the next nearby date...
