Thank you Pier Paolo... I’m just listening to "Act One" right now and I must say it’s a nice surprise: it’s truly a beautiful album! I will definitely get the next two as well. Thanks again for the recommendation.

I found an old LP from this group at home... it's "Get your dog off Me!".
Looking on progarchives, I saw that it has the lowest average rating. Maybe it would be better to start with some other album of theirs?!

Up there I meant to say '...the raging guitar...'. Typo!

Good album this "Monolith", although signs of the impending decline of this great band are starting to show. - The opening of the album, "On The Other Side", is excellent... the roaring guitar at the end of "How my soul cries out for you" is very enjoyable. But perhaps the best tracks are the folk-influenced "Reason To Be" and the (hard)rocking "A Glimpse Of Glory" - Overall, I would say that 4 stars (even if a bit stretched) are warranted!

Great review Shoot, as always. The album, from how you describe it, sounds really interesting. I listened to the samples and they are quite good, especially track n°3... bluesy atmospheres quite reminiscent of ZZ-Top (the early ZZ-Top, I mean) but overall smoother. It really sounds like a nice find!

I don't think the band is very well-known (as can be seen from the lack of comments, hehe!). I myself only know their most famous song, and I owe that to the soundtrack of the video game GTA Vice City... of course, I'm referring to "Turn Up The Radio," which is really nice. I might just download something from the mule!

Great review as always, PierPaolo... I must admit, though, that this album didn't excite me very much. I definitely prefer the later "E Pluribus Funk" and, above all, "Phoenix"... which features the wonderful "Flight Of The Phoenix," a song with an incredible 'tiro' (as you perfectly describe it)!

Excellent album without a shadow of a doubt, although very similar to the debut. Excellent are the title track and "Pictures Of A City." The jazz-rock of "Cat Food" is also stunning, foreshadowing the trends of the subsequent album, "Lizard." Rating for the album: 4 and 1/2 stars - A couple of questions for the reviewer. (1) "a flettersi leggermente verso il basso con Islands e Lizard": are you really sure they are inferior to this, especially the wonderful Islands? (2) "tentativi fortunatamente sventati di mandare tutto a farsi benedire fino a quando a qualcuno non verrà in mente di incidere Red": so, according to you, would the stratospheric Larks' Tongues In Aspic and the more than good Starless And Bible Black be considered junk? Well... a review that leaves me quite perplexed too!
