I agree with Lazy... the early albums of Deep Purple absolutely deserve to be rediscovered. It's really a shame that the band nowadays practically only plays "Hush" from those albums!

The review is definitely well-written and just the right length, with great comparisons and very interesting descriptions. I don't know all the songs on this album... based on what I know, it would be a three and a half, but I don't feel comfortable giving a judgment without having fully listened to the album.

Good review, and I fully agree with your 3/5 for Mescalero. In my opinion, the trio, since they tried to recapture the rawer sound of their early days (that is, after "Antenna" in 1994), has lost a bit of its edge. Still, it's enjoyable to listen to. Definitely better than many albums that came out in 2003!

Thank you for the comment, Shine. I'll try to listen to them again... maybe I was misled by the fact that I haven't listened to "A momentary..." in a long time. Interesting news about On The Turning Away, I really didn't know that. PS: I also clearly prefer "The Division Bell" between the two albums without Waters.

This CD was my first purchase by Deep Purple (I liked the cover... what a silly reason!) and I still enjoy listening to it very much today. In my opinion, Evans' voice is wonderful. Does anyone know if he has released any solo albums or sung for any other bands??? Thanks!

CORRECTION ... When I talked about Run Like Hell, I forgot to write "virtuosity". It should be "... of pure guitar virtuosity (...".

He... this CD isn’t appreciated by many, but I think it’s very beautiful. If you find it and have around ten euros to spend, I recommend you buy it because it's worth it. "Back Door Angels," "Sealion," and "Only Solitaire" are songs of rare beauty. Moreover, the remastered version contains many bonus tracks including the stunning "Rainbow Blues." You won’t be disappointed.

Great review piece. WarChild is a really good album (even though not many appreciate it) ... very colorful. The only song that doesn't drive me crazy is "The Third Hoorah," the others, on the other hand, are all of excellent quality!
