The 3 in the review is due to the fact that it is really well written; what you say I hardly agree with at all. Then, the digression on "Non ci resta che piangere" where there is a masterful performance by both actors, true Giants of Italian comedy, does not find me in agreement with your respectable opinions. The film itself is a good movie but nothing more, a very "commercial" product... not a masterpiece worthy of a 5, but neither a "piece of crap" deserving of a 1. I agree on Benigni's excessive optimism, but that does not compromise the final result of the film too severely... my humble opinion.
