Ghemison, at this point, since it’s easy for you, I’m waiting, with a nice 5 ready, for your impressionist review (not provocative, as I don't like those). Hi!

Know-it-all, I'm suing you!!!! ;). I was speaking in general, clearly. The only thing I want to say, in conclusion, is that these reviews should be encouraged. Probably the fairest thing said so far is by Kid_A. Bye.

Kid_A, you’re right, sorry. What I quoted is from Jed's Other Poem, still in The Sophtware Slump, and it goes exactly: "I Try to sing it funny like Beck, but it's bringing me down.."

And then I want to add that there are already billions of sites and encyclopedias where you can find details about individual albums, filled with many well-written reviews and the life, death, and miracles of individual artists. The added value that you can have on debaser, as a free website not subjected to strict judgment from harsh editors, is to unleash your creativity and write something that you will probably not find anywhere else. At least that's my opinion. It's clear that creating something like this isn't easy because here too, as everywhere in life, what people care about is a guaranteed good grade, without risk.

I must admit you are right, I can be a bit inconsistent, but I always follow my impressions of the moment when it comes to things. At least on Debaser, which is, as Nick says, kept alive by a group of "amateurs" (more or less professionals, I would add). Anyway, for me writing "reviews" can be a form of attempted (rarely successful) literature, while for you perhaps it's a bit of a mathematical act and a matter of "musical expertise." Both are definitely necessary. It’s just that usually many criticize reviews of the first type, while few (like yours truly) criticize those of the second. The latter are extremely helpful when things are becoming overly devalued and stripping away that minimum importance that written pieces on this site should have. The former are valuable when one is taking themselves too seriously as musicologists.

Music a bit "plastic" and "with an artificial soul." Beck's singing, in particular, is always a little too detached, even when he dedicates himself to melodies that are anything but cold. It's beautiful how Jason Lytle from Grandaddy paints it, who in Jed The Humanoid has the robot say, "I wish I could sing fun like Beck, but I can't," or something like that.

Well, Nick, you are one of the leading figures of the school, I would even say one of the founders ;)

Long live the impressionist review, down with the photographic ones...

I hadn't read the comments, but keep writing this way anyway. I (who have already gone through this type of criticism) like it, and perhaps deep down, the editors do too, even if certain "professionals" might wrinkle their noses.

Lewis, beautiful review of something that intrigues me immensely (could this finally be the time I won't be disappointed?). Moreover (I might be mistaken, but I like to believe it), I am extremely honored that at the end you "stole" the sky and the clouds from the review of Clouds Taste Metallic. Hello!
