I find that in that g3, the most technically challenging parts were actually played by Malmsteen... then his work with the orchestra is completely different from that of Metallica, Scorpions, or Nightwish...

Anyway, reading it again, the review is pretty ugly; it only says nonsense without actually discussing the pieces. I give it a 1 to balance my previous score (3).

Sorry to interrupt the discussion... 1 "would all great guitarists be able to compose with and for orchestra" obviously, but everyone in their own way, e.g., some would manage to truly bring out the orchestra, others wouldn't. That's the problem, the actual quality of the work... 2 Bored at a Malmsteen concert? Is that possible? I understand listening to some of his albums... but live... 3 The reinterpretation of the Four Seasons done by Uli Roth (who, as you said, is truly an able musician) is frankly very ugly, not to mention concert suite... 4 Just so you know, those "sounds" you talk about are often made willingly (though less than Roth, who abuses them a bit too much... that's my opinion). Malmsteen does it too (just to cite a live performance, listen to "Far Beyond the Sun" from "Live in Brazil"). 5 Spontaneity is another story... 6 Unfortunately, when discussing Malmsteen, it always seems like we're talking about a guitarist who plays sixteenth notes at 300 BPM and nothing else.
