FOLK AND ELECTRONIC INFLUENCES?!?! WHERE DO YOU HEAR THEM?! There's absolutely NOTHING folk about Evanescence, let alone electronic... Honestly, I don't think you even know what these genres are... As for folk, listen to the CD by NOTHING HILLBILLIES (country-folk) or something by Bonnie Prince Billy or GHOST REPEATER by Jeffrey Foucault (more country, I’d say, though) or something by Bruce Springsteen... or even the album "O" by Damien Rice... crazy stuff... you're losing it, kid, let me tell you... As for electronic, check out "martes" by Murcof, Mouse on Mars, or the really talented Ellen Allien and Apparat... that way you’ll understand that maybe Evanescence is just nu metal disguised as gothic... (x matt7: take notes :P)

Look, darkassio, I find the much-praised dt to be a bunch of whores: just technique with no originality and no distinctive elements. And if you don’t mind, let’s not compare Nightwish, who are incredibly original for managing to combine two genres like power metal and operatic lyricism (or almost), with Evanescence, because Amy Lee's voice is a complete mess compared to Tarja's... Cannibal Corpse have nothing to do with this; they play brutal metal, a senseless genre that exists only for true enthusiasts or for those who occasionally want to blast some manic chaos into their ears... Nothing more... And let’s not say nonsense; the Ev are shamelessly copying Nightwish and another band (of which I can't remember the name right now); they have absolutely nothing original. The last album shows no experimentation and no difference from the previous one: it breathes the exact same air that was felt with Fallen. A different discussion, however, is if you compare their first two EPs and the album ORIGIN with Fallen and this one; in that case, yes, the first albums are already quite different from Fallen; simply, with Fallen, they aimed for music intended for a larger audience, and thus it was inevitable that they would have to commercialize... Sorry, davegoth, what’s alternative about Evanescence?! What do you mean by alternative? Name the "alternative" bands you listen to, and then I’ll tell you...

What I want to say, lux, is that I find the dt neither fish nor fowl: a big mishmash of bands from the past copied purely for the purpose of self-aggrandizing instrumental technique that is ultimately pointless... sorry for the sentence that doesn’t make any sense... Ah lux... if you have MSN, feel free to add me: adri.be@virgilio.it, at least we can continue our discussion of high musical ideals there :-))))

Look, if there's a group that doesn't even know what originality means and is self-serving, it's definitely the dt. If you talk like this about the porcupine, it means you've only listened to "THE SKY MOVES SIDEWAYS," which is a tribute to Pink Floyd: do you think it's easy to even just COPY Pink Floyd?! Yet they managed it incredibly well, while the version of "the dark..." redone by the dt is just self-indulgent without any idea...
To get a complete picture of the porcupine, you should download their entire discography; there's not a single album that's similar to the previous one. The MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST Steven Wilson, besides Porcupine Tree, is also the leader of other bands. Each of these bands is a DIFFERENT GENRE: one band is POP, another is JAZZ, yet another is minimalist ELECTRONIC... Think about it, the latest porcupine album is progressive metal, so... "but there are plenty like that": show me another group that has done and continues to do all the things I've just said about the porcupine... I want to see.

...not like these recyclers here... anyway, I didn't get if your comment was a provocation. Still, you've always called me "adriano," so I would appreciate it if you continued to do so... we're not in school, after all...

Porcupine Tree are not overrated at all; at least they are ORIGINAL and have managed to create from their OWN INVENTIVENESS, releasing one more original and refined album after another. Not to mention that they effortlessly switch genres from album to album, moving from electronic to progressive metal to psychedelic rock...
