But what does it matter... I have weaknesses too, but music isn’t just subjective. I like Enrique Iglesias, but I don’t go around saying he’s great. Not all the music we like is good... and not everything that moves us is well-played music... Britney Spears can move me too, but I’d be completely wrong to say she’s talented as an artist... I enjoy the 69 Eyes, I listen to them, but that doesn’t stop me from saying they’re terrible as a band... I repeat, for me, what pleases and moves us isn’t always good music... Otherwise, it wouldn’t explain why Julio Iglesias or Eros Ramazzotti are so widely listened to, don’t you think?! Sometimes, though, it happens that good music aligns with your tastes and your emotions...

Already heard both, fjell, and already tossed in the bin in a hurry! Come on, I can understand that they remind you of your younger years (oh yes, such a long, long time ago :D) but as music, it’s really the worst of the worst...

Aren't the ark those other junkies who say "it takes a fool to remain sane"?!

I heard it myself, Fjell, he's very good... But the Europeans HARD ROCK?! It's the worst epic glam gay trash (a freshly coined term :-)) that exists on the planet! The final Countdown, how awful!

I have the discography of Evanescence; a year or two ago, I was even quite obsessed with them... THE UNDERSTANDING is 7 minutes of the same boring stuff... Simply put, Evanescence acts much more like a goth dark band... Lacuna are much better than Evanescence; they make some beautiful albums... and often have more Eastern melodies... Evanescence is much less original in this, they always stick to the same style... Matt, you'll be drowning in guitar oblivion... Steve Vai is a big show-off and his guitar is not a real guitar, just as Petrucci's isn't a real guitar... it's just technique without originality or inventiveness, pure display of skill that doesn't integrate with the rest of the song... As a guitarist (always at that rather low level, mind you), Eric Johnson is better; at least CLIFFS OF DOVER was nice... The rhythm in Dire Straits songs is perfect, they are not verbose, they do not repeat themselves, they have a guitar that perfectly integrates with Mark's spoken word, in fact, it's the guitar that sings in place of Mark... Dire Straits have nothing to do with these show-offs like Steve Vai or Satriani (who has made ONE SONG repeated for 300 identical records)... The only decent album these show-offs have made is perhaps the one they did together with Vai, Satriani, and Johnson... but it is still a very rough guitar album, like all the discography of these "artists."

"Music shouldn't be studied, it should be loved." Music must be both studied (in the sense that you need to understand something about it: history, genre, style, inspiration) and loved; otherwise, how do you cope with someone who listens to Britney Spears? If they tell you that music should be studied and not loved, you would respond that it must be studied at least to some extent because Britney Spears is crap. Otherwise, your argument would save many debaserian lives that I claim every day: fans of Blue, fans of Europe, fans of Nirvana, fans of Guns 'n Roses... With your reasoning, they would all be right. You listen to music only and solely because it conveys some feeling to you: so if the Backstreet Boys convey emotions to someone, does that mean the Backstreet Boys are good?! And then stop voting; everyone is entitled to only one vote; otherwise, YOU DO NOT RESPECT THE VOTE AND THE OPINION OF OTHERS... respect... otherwise, it means you're a bit fascist and that only your opinion matters...

My dear, you are off track, Mark's style blended with the music PERFECTLY... he never did 15 minutes of flashy guitar solo to show off how good he was... he didn't need to... That guy Steve Vai, now he just focuses on technique, a true guitar is something he wouldn't even recognize... I would call it electric guitar FOR THE MASSES...
