Nice review; however, this time I only partially agree; I believe it’s a great album. Personally, the only track I would consider a semi-filler is "Blu(e) notte." I don’t find any particular weak points: "Vaudeville (ultimo mondo cannibale)" is an interlude that has quite a lot to say; "Due giornate fiorentine" is a very beautiful fresco, moreover enriched by the little scene with the gas station attendant; "Per un vecchio bambino" is a beautiful and moving track. And if "Samarcanda," as I read in your words, is rejected, it remains an engaging and, in its own way, perfect track, what captivates me are the remaining two tracks: "Canzone per Sergio," which I love the arrangement of, and the stunning "L'ultimo spettacolo," which is for me one of the absolute best from our collection.

Beautiful album; for me perhaps his best. I especially love "Il castello," a wonderful song, the moving "Ninni," and "A te," with an disarming sweetness.

Beautiful review; don't worry about the duplicate: rereading mine, I realized it's aged terribly (my goodness, how endearing I used to be...).
(By the way, despite the various Bennato - whom I adore - Battiato and their band, I stand by my opinion on our arrangements. All the more so after discovering, a few years ago, an authentic gem like "Il re non si diverte"; the long titular track is stunning in its progression towards the inevitable conclusion, the "Ninna nanna" is of a rare sweetness, and the poignant "Sabato stelle" might just be - simply - the best song by Vecchioni.)

I liked it a lot; I agree with hjhhjij's opinion about the lack of an ethical moral - in this film it would have just been hypocrisy. (If you really want to find a silly scene, shall we talk about the perfect storm in the Mediterranean? :-p)

I have recently approached classical music, and I've only devoured the incredible finale of Mahler's Second; but it blew me away. The review is excellent.
