G3 Live in Denver

De gustibus Surferkangaroo, you express a legitimate opinion, but just as legitimately open to criticism: to claim that these gentlemen are merely clueless individuals without a passion for the music they play is a rather radical and extreme opinion, and I regret to say there is quite a lot to discuss about it. I take great distance from a statement like yours, and I think many guitar enthusiasts and guitarists do as well; I respect your vote because it reflects your free thought, but other than that, I firmly dissociate myself.

In medio stat virtus, the Latins said, and I agree with Aniel, this is a good G3, but honestly, from the three best guitarists in the world, one could expect more. Satriani's performance in his pieces is very good, but the same cannot be said when he plays alongside Vai and Malmsteen, who instead show a nice synergy together. In my opinion, Vai could have included more well-known and artistically beautiful pieces in the lineup (like Tender Surrender or Principessa), and Malmsteen has had happier moments in his career; in this G3, he is rather verbose and redundant, except for sporadic episodes like "Little Wing" or "Far Beyond the Sun." As entertainment, it deserves 5 stars, but as actual music, 4 stars is quite generous.

I have this album somewhere, but it's been at least 15 years since I last listened to it. Anyway, congratulations on the original idea! As for the quality of the record, I think 3 stars is a fair judgment, maybe even generous!

Hi Momo! I suspected you had a background in classical guitar, am I right? If you get a chance, even just out of curiosity, take a look at my review on Uli Roth (it’s still on the main page of the site!) and then let me know what you think here (to comment there you need to log in!). I would appreciate it, even though we have different musical tastes; I enjoy discussing with someone who plays and knows the instrument well! Talk soon.

Thank you all for your initial comments, lucky Mandrocker to see Uli on stage! I take the liberty of distancing myself from Aniel's viewpoint; I respect it because it's important to listen to every opinion, but from my perspective, Jimi Hendrix and Steve Ray Vaughan are very musically distant, while the analogies and affinities with Uli Roth (at least from the Scorpions and Electric Sun period) are truly remarkable.

Yes, I know him, I’ve seen him before, technology has really made great strides! Did you study classical guitar? I ask you because I read in your comments about arpeggios, an important technique used in classical guitar.

Thank you, Momo, for the detailed explanation; the story about feedback is very interesting, I didn't know it! We have a slightly different opinion on bending, but as you say, each person develops their own experience. The riff of Paranoid seems elementary in itself; I don't think Tony Iommi places particular stylizations on the instrument, unlike some of the other illustrious guitarists mentioned earlier.

Ok, anyway, I meant to say that you have a great musical preparation, from which I can only benefit. Yes, exactly, that's what I meant regarding Hendrix. I tell you, I've listened to many interpretations of his pieces, some done very well (technically even more precise) like those by Randy Hansen. However, I've noticed that his sound and that extension are something that no one, or almost no one, can achieve (except for Steve Vai and Uli Roth, who are the only ones to have interpreted it correctly in my opinion). Can you explain to me what technique that is? You talked to me about feedback.
