I also dabble with the solo from Highway Star, even though I’m not a professional—just an electric guitar enthusiast for 14 years!! I enjoy trying it out; it's not technically difficult. Bolin used to change it live; I don't know if it was because he was high or if he just liked to add variations. I saw Satriani live with the Purple, and technically he's devastating! I agree with you about Morse; after a while, he tires me out, and I find him out of place in the Purple. In fact, there are no hit songs with him; with Bolin, it's a different story. I think with Uli Roth, there would still be the possibility to make great pieces, but not because I necessarily want to replace an old glory with another. If we think about it, how old was Uli when he played Fly to the Rainbow or Taken by Force? Well, he was just over twenty. If there were a 20 or 25-year-old Uli Roth around today, I’d sign him up without a second thought, but I don’t think there is one. I don't think there’s a guitarist capable of composing pieces like his, which still have extraordinary charm even after 30 years, just like Blackmore's. Guys, this is the personality I’m talking about, and I don't see it in the current lineup; I see excellent guitarists who are very technically prepared, but I don't see another Ritchie Blackmore, I'm sorry. Not by chance, who did they call to replace him? Let me tell you: Yngwie Malmsteen, who refused; Steve Vai, who refused; Michael Schenker, same; Satriani, who only agreed to do a tour; and Steve Morse!! I mean, it's the entire G3 put together plus others. That’s the truth—Blackmore is a nightmare for guitarists because they have to compete with the history of rock, with Highway Star, Child in Time, Burn, Stormbringer, and create new pieces that don’t make you miss that past, which is off-limits for almost everyone.

I downloaded an mp3 of one of his compositions; he's undeniably talented. It may just be a coincidence, but this piece has a vibe more reminiscent of Tommy Bolin than Blackmore! However, my point is related to personality. Honestly, I believe Uli Roth, both as a musician and charismatic figure, is on an exceptionally high level, difficult to match both in Italy and abroad. The guitarist you mentioned is definitely good (I'll look into it further), but Andrea Braido is also talented and has formed a band that played only Purple songs, which they executed very well. However, there’s a difference between performing great pieces that have already been written and taking on the burden of composing equally great new ones, and that’s where things get tough. I think Uli might be the only one who could keep Blackmore's legacy alive as a composer, but that's just my opinion; I could be wrong, yet I stand by this belief!

Surely there are talented guitarists in Italy as well; I don't want to be misunderstood. Steve Morse is very skilled, but when he plays his pieces from Deep Purple, I find him too distant from the sounds and influences of Blackmore. I don't know Dario Mollo, so I can't give an opinion, but regardless of technical ability, replacing Blackmore requires a strong personality and having lived through the 70s at the forefront. Uli Roth has all of this, along with a musical path very similar to Ritchie's. For this reason, I believe he was the most suitable guitarist to bring new life to the Purple, especially in creating new anthems, which honestly are missing with Steve Morse.

So the site is www.youtube.com. Just type Alcatrazz in the search engine and you'll see the beautiful videos with Malmsteen and Bonnet. There's also an extraordinary version of Malmsteen's solo piece "Evil Eye" and the Rainbow covers "Lost in Hollywood" and "Since You've Been Gone," all played by Alcatrazz, and one even features Bonnet and Steve Vai! Then you can click on Blackmore's Rainbow, and there are the very rare videos with Dio, Turner, Bonnet, and all the other artists you love, including Dio solo! Have fun and then let me know what you think!

Hi God, I need to correct you about Satriani, I attended the concert with the Purple in 1994 and Highway Star was played like a God!! By the way, I also have the bootleg of that concert in Genoa, it was a unique event! Speaking of Ronnie, if you're interested, there's a site with very rare videos of the Rainbow, including with Dio, Alcatrazz with Bonnet and Malmsteen, and many other rarities; if you'd like, I can write it down for you!

I don't know savopardo, what you say is true on one hand, but the Rainbows with Turner definitely have an AOR sound. Sure, a Wasted Sunset could fit in well, you know, by the way, the double-taking solo by Blackmore, wow, that's playing artistically!!

Absolutely right, great performance with Shenker, you can see there's a real musical chemistry between the two! By the way, I have my own personal opinion, let me know what you think: in my view, Uli Roth would have been perfect to replace Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple, I think he would have done a splendid job and perhaps brought new life to the band, after all, in terms of personality, he's one of the few who can really match up to the man in black! Honestly, while Steve Morse is very skilled, I find him extremely distant from the sounds of Blackmore and the Porpora, what do you think?

It's true, in the mid and high tones it has an amazing sound; Steve Vai called it "very wicked, very cool"!! On his official website www.ulijonroth.com in the archives section, there are his videos, and the Sky Overture is extraordinary. It's quite large to download, about 160 MB, but it's worth it. I highly recommend watching it to all fans of virtuosic electric guitar!

Thank you so much for your comments and for the valuable additions to my review; they help to improve it! Enrico, I’m glad that Snake are returning a bit to their origins; after all, at the beginning they undoubtedly expressed the maximum of themselves! By the way, I don’t know if you had the chance to read my private message, what do you think about House of Lords, especially their debut album? Do you remember them and how do you judge it? Filippo, great clarification on Campbell and the distinction between the CD and LP of Live in the Heart; thank you for the comprehensive information! See you soon and greetings to everyone!

So Ale, for the review I want to give you the highest score, it’s a pity that the singer is very far from my preferences, but if you like it and it allows you to write well as you did here, then don’t pay attention to the invectives, tastes are personal and no one can contest them. You’ve shown that you can write with passion, for this reason keep doing it, well done!
