Zigghio, you should write reviews more often....you're great at it...excellent review! My favorite ones are "Kimberly" and "100 ways": almost a desert island album....

The Ziggy deconstruction album is delirious, a twisted and exaggerated work, with compositions all over 5 minutes long: the result of Avery's genius, who was overshadowed by Perry in Jane's Addiction (the two hated each other, partly because Eric had made a move on Casey, Perry's long-time girlfriend). It’s no coincidence that Avery did not participate in the Jane's reunion, depriving the band of a key element (Chris Chaney would turn out to be a supporting player). Navarro plays like a god, perhaps for the last time in his life. By the way, I don't know if it was released in Italy, due to issues with Rick Rubin's American Recordings, which had published it, and I remember it got awful reviews. I bought it in the States in '95. The review is almost ready; I just need to finish it in my spare time. I think I’ll whip up the one for Good Good Urge in no time. It’s a very relaxing album, even just to write about, I think. By the way, it seems Avery is playing with Smashing Pumpkins now... another sign of how much Corgan adored Jane's (if you notice, just to cite an example, the bass line of "I Am One" by the Pumpkins is practically identical to the legendary line in "Been Caught Stealing"...)

Beautiful ocean, I agree with everything… perfect album for junkies like us! I especially love the version of "Stop," with Navarro doing wonders in the bridge, and then "Slow divers": it’s such a shame it was left off the first album.

In the end, I got something... I really like the voice, the imagery, the atmospheres... but maybe a bit too challenging for me... anyway, definitely a cult band. Beautiful review.

Hi festwca! Yes, the review is a bit lengthy, but some context was necessary: the insights this work offers are truly numerous, believe me. After all, there are extremely long reviews on jazz or avant-garde artists that are rightly appreciated here on debaser; I don't see why we can't do the same for artists who tell stories, describe worlds, and capture the essence of many things. In certain reviews, I find it important to describe the contents of an album in a thorough manner, even at the cost of seeming heavy-handed. One more thing. I didn't say that the GLB were essential, but that they were great. That's quite different. You can be great without being indispensable: it's enough to create just one album that encapsulates the spirit of your time, with stylistic vibrancy and a lot of poetry. Just like, at least for me, "Mighty Joe Moon." Bye.
