Mozart / Bohm, Pollini, Wiener Philarmoniker Concerti Per Pianoforte n. 23 e 19
Voto:
Impressive the perfection, the balance, the dynamics that Bohm, Pollini, and the Wieners manage to extract from the wonderful Mozartian scores. I have the complete set of Mozart's piano concertos, with Geza Anda as soloist and conductor along with the Camerata Academica des Salzburger Mozarteums, which I recommend for the genuine Salzburg "flavour" it exudes. Recently, I also got a beautiful double DVD from DG, containing the filmed version of the recordings of these two concertos, along with Beethoven's 3rd and 5th "Emperor" concertos (also with Pollini, Bohm, and Wiener), as well as Brahms' 2nd concerto (Pollini, Abbado, and Wiener): it's stunning to see how music marks the faces, expressions, and gestures of these great interpreters. The review is excellent, but I also echo the criticisms regarding the remarks on 20th-century music, reiterating here what I've said elsewhere: I believe it's intellectually inappropriate to set up a direct comparison between Mozart and any other composer from such a different era. Judgments cannot be that absolute; they must be tempered according to the context, the eras, and the historical moment.

Exquisite, elegant, and unique proposal; adjectives that also apply well to the review, as usual. There's a bit of everything in this album, right Symbad? This one is also on the list.

Thank you always Odradek! When the excitement of listening is so great, the words seem to flow out on their own. Best regards in abundance (antziquènò).
Antonín Dvořák Piano Quintet Op.81

Ah, I almost forgot, indeed one of the ugliest DG covers of all time, simply dreadful. Everyone is just repeating what Manfred Eicher said!
Antonín Dvořák Piano Quintet Op.81

Absolutely to be counted among the peaks of chamber music, this quintet by Dvořák: its all-Bohemian charm never ceases to enchant. Superb description josi, soft as cashmere.

Yes, how much we miss Michel! Well done for remembering him so honorably. I saw him live in a sextet: a unique emotion! By the way, I’m missing his album; is it a solo or with a supporting band?
