THE REVIEW

The Church are a true rock institution. Sooner or later, people will have to notice.

The band, active since 1980, has always produced albums of excellent quality, without ever receiving the due recognition from critics and the public. They were ahead of their time with their dreamy psychedelic rock, paving the way for bands like R.E.M. and The Smiths, and they have remained consistent with their "timeless" sound throughout their artistic career.

The year 2006 marks a great comeback: "Uninvited, Like The Clouds" is a wonderful album, a kind of stylistic reunion with the era of the three masterpieces "Remote Luxury", "Heyday", and "Starfish".

Muffled sounds, suspended atmospheres, melancholic and dreamy songs. An infallible recipe. It's difficult to highlight which tracks stand out among the others. They are all beautiful. The opening trio "Block", "Unified Field", "Space Needle" is a wonderful thrilling triptych, a kind of stylistic parallelism with the three jewels at the start of "Starfish", without taking anything away from the following tracks that move between minimal electronics, guitar arpeggios, and Steve Kilbey's always remarkable voice. "Real Toggle Action" and "She'll Come Back For You Tomorrow" are unmatched. "Untoward", "Day 5" and "Song To Go..." as a sort of final farewell close in extraordinary beauty an album with chiaroscuro tones of absolute emotion.

An album to savor until the last note!!!!
