Passion, anguish, romanticism taken to the extreme, exotic nuances: this and much more is found in the choreographic kaleidoscope of The Nutcracker. A good review, perhaps sparse in specific details, but spontaneous and passionate.

Although I'm not particularly crazy about musical Verismo, it is undeniable that "Cavalleria Rusticana" represents a point of excellence in the history of Italian opera. And how moving is the wonderful Intermezzo, a heartfelt and melancholic description of my Sicily, in delicate pastel shades. I have the DVD version from Philips featuring the Orchestra and Choir of La Scala, Georges Pretre conducting, the marvelous trio Domingo-Bruson-Obraztova (Turiddu, Alfio, and Santuzza), and the direction of Franco Zeffirelli. The DVD also includes "Pagliacci" by Leoncavallo, traditionally paired as a diptych with Cavalleria. Bravo marco85, excellent review for its informative contribution and genuine passion.
