AA.VV. Metal For Muthas

Well, well, at least I recommend listening to the first album by Angel Witch because I've been told it's a cornerstone of the genre. I’m waiting for Bartleboom to pass. (defeat the punk wave?)

I also need some pointers: I practically only know Maggot Brain! For me, fondant without sugar, please.

Ah, Odra, I really liked this record. I'd say the difference with Battles lies precisely in the fact that while they are sophisticated, complex, elaborate, and intellectual, these guys are more linear and direct. And for me, that's (almost) always a good thing. No abuse of strange effects, but a rather immediate sound that is nonetheless enjoyable. I also hear (besides the obvious Tortoise, who are everywhere), a bit of the Louisville school (Gastr Del Sol?). But where do you find these records?

Ahah, the ekranoplan looks like something pseudo-sci-fi straight out of a Miyazaki film :)

You're right. I have nothing against the romantic. It's just that paired with doom (a sound that comes from the wicked heaviness of certain riffs by Black Sabbath) it leaves me a bit puzzled. But then again, it's a matter of taste, certainly.

Yes, it did surprise me a bit the half dismissal of Psycho. Avatar is a great album.

DE-Càpperi: the comeback with a very brief review (!) and an album that incredibly I can like (!!). Indeed, what am I saying: I'm listening to it now and I already prefer it to Battles.

It's a beautiful album, definitely on par with Avatar by the cousins Comets on Fire (though they are even more trippy). Highly recommended.
