Cul De Sac China Gate

I agree with godbowl, they didn't tell me much either (I listened to both this and ecim a while ago, at least I think so). For sure, it's not an innovative album, just good music. Anyway, nothing exceptional...

The Mothers Of Invention Freak Out!

Incredible that this album was still missing on Deb! It’s one of the few by Zappa that I occasionally enjoy listening to; for me, old Frank has always been a bit too tough and excessive. Avant-garde, yes, but also beautiful pop songs, and then there’s the mega-brick ending "The Return of the Son of Monster Magnet," which I honestly can’t digest, but which is indeed an incredibly twisted trip of epic proportions. Seminal, to say the least.

A doubt arises: on DeB, everyone knows that the HIM are horrifying, so what's the use of this page? I could understand if it had been published on the MTV site...

But you are insulting one of the greatest groups in the history of rock!

In my opinion, the stuff they did before is better. The Independency collection is awesome.
Dissolve That That Is...Is (Not)

I haven't listened to their second one yet, but I've been told it's different from this one, closer to the instrumental things they did in "Scenes from the South Island" and "Temple IV," but less inspired. "And Now The Rain Sounds Like Life Is Falling Through It" is also beautiful: the same atmospheres as in Scenes and Temple IV, but with more concise and effective tracks, and Roy returning to sing in many pieces, just like in the days of Dadamah.

@fusillo: indeed, in my opinion, immediacy is neither a value nor a disvalue; it needs to be contextualized. Slapp Happy, I’ll take note. I remember your review of their collaboration with Henry Cow. @bjork68: accepted apologies :)

Well, then we more or less agree. But your argument is quite different from saying "if a few people know you, it’s not enough to make you an Artist with a capital A," as Björk mentioned a little earlier.

I don't like Bad Moon Rising either :) But immediate communicativeness isn't an absolute virtue, come on. So, back to the much-praised '70s, where would the Faust end up?
