You are absolutely right, but you have to agree that everyone plays as they see fit... and it's much better to have an innovative "cooper" (always in the context of the Cure) than an incompetent "tolhurst"! In fact, I didn't mention it in my review, but A Forest (perhaps my favorite) disappointed me because... let's say it lacks power! It's straightforward, without any tom fills or drum rolls that aren't on record! In short, it feels completely unspontaneous... and in a song (that lasts 6 minutes) that goes TU TA TU TA from start to finish, it definitely shows! Especially if, like me (and I believe you too?!), you play the instrument in question! The fact remains that the current sound of the Cure's drums fits poorly, or even less than before, with the rest...

In fact, songs like "Lullaby," "Just Like Heaven," "Fryday,"... weren't exactly something special without keyboards. But Thompson managed to make them work just the same, as you say, because he's no slouch when it comes to guitar! Maybe the environment played a crucial role in my judgment and that of many others... anyway, they played really well, much better than in Naples... what do you mean by "little CURE" drums? Bye!
