John Zorn Cobra: Studio Version
Voto:
Well done, Dante!! In fact, Cobra is a bit of a challenging listen, like all "game pieces," but it has its reasons. I believe an enthusiastic critic, regarding one of Zorn's game pieces, said that what he had created was the musical equivalent of the invention of baseball, which for an American is quite the compliment. Another anecdote: it seems that during the performance of a game piece, the musicians themselves couldn't distinguish one piece from another...

I don't know, I think this deserves a 4.5, I reserve the 5 for other albums (Rain Dogs, Bone Machine, and Alice are my personal favorites). Still at very high levels.

Well, I'm also for an average score. The human beast is quite funny, but let’s not go overboard.

Warren Zevon Excitable Boy
Voto:
I don’t know, to me the boss has always seemed like a poor, shrunken copy of Dylan, of whom you could listen to a lot just for comparison, if you haven’t already, the live from '66 or '75 (bootleg series vol 4 or 5). Springsteen just doesn’t sit well with me; it might be my own limitation. I can't even stand it when he covers Jersey Girl by Tom Waits, a beautiful song he has thoughtlessly ruined...

I don't know, to me Warren Zevon seems a lot better than Bruce Springsteen, a bland songwriter, a little commercial and with the major labels on his side. Anyway, de gustibus.
