Like almost everyone, I know this artist only tangentially, from his appearance in "Have a Cigar." This has all the ingredients to please me, so I'm voting on trust.
Ringo Starr Ringo The 4th
Voto:
Probably the worst of Ringo's solo works and one of the worst among the solo efforts of the former Beatles; yet it's miraculous that he managed to record it amidst the excesses and even produced something decent. The cover is pure trash (although Yoko Ono naked in Two Virgins is a tad worse...)
Franco Battiato Inneres Auge - Il Tutto E' Più Della Somma Delle Sue Parti
Voto:
As I already wrote, it seems to me a minor Battiato... but it’s true, if he did it just for the contract, lacking much new material, it might have been hard to do better than this (even though I think some of the remakes, like "Un'altra vita" and "Haiku," weren’t necessary): maybe a mini-cd.
In any case, an album that soars high compared to all the crap you hear around. These are difficult times, and we could use 10, 100, 1000 Inneres Auge...
Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck Le Vite Degli Altri
Voto:
I'm intrigued, both by the era and the setting. Among the communist regimes, that of the GDR was probably the bleakest and the most mystifying (due to its name and the formal presence of other parties: there was a Social Democratic Party, a Christian Democratic Party, and a National Democratic Party, all created by the SED, which effectively led them), and in 1984 it appeared particularly cold and monolithic, due to re-education, the cult of forced physical education and sports regimenting from childhood, mass denunciation... In short, the most Orwellian of communist regimes.
Elton John Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player
Voto:
Overall, an excellent demonstration of healthy eclecticism, with 2-3 masterpieces ("Daniel," "High Flying Bird," and "Have Mercy Of the Criminal"), other great episodes, and a couple of fillers (the ones you mentioned). In my CD version, I also have a very moving piano version of "Pigeon Skyline" (it's my favorite piece, but I also know it was already included in a previous album).
Gigi D'Agostino Lento Violento

Finally, I understood who "Giggi er Trojone" from Fantozzi's universe is. This is just violent, and it stands to music like the doodles of sexual organs in the restrooms of service areas stand to Botticelli's Venus.

Mariano Apicella Meglio Una Canzone
Voto:
It smells fake a mile away, and therefore it is unjudgeable. Mariano Apicella, however, isn't, and he deserves to be run over by a sewage tank along with his protector and the entire Letizia family.
Jack Kerouac Sulla Strada
Voto:
Read back in college... I was really fascinated by the story, even though I think I would have enjoyed it more with a map of the USA in front of me... it wasn’t easy to follow Sal, Dean & Co. on their adventures with just my imagination.

I would really like to see him, but I haven't had the chance yet. A vote of esteem.
