I agree with Telespalla and Madcat. I believe this is Alberto Sordi's best film, especially when he transitions from his usual farcical register to that of a ruthless avenger. I place Giovanni Vivaldi alongside Innocenzi, the main officer in "Tutti a casa," a character who, disoriented by the events following the armistice of '43, takes a stand against the Germans after they kill a friend. A round of applause also goes to Vincenzo Crocitti, a character actor today known mainly for his television roles, with a very distinctive face and a gentle, not too sharp demeanor that suits the role of Vivaldi's son well.
