It seems to me like an album that reflects all the strengths and weaknesses of much of Italian prog: a lot of care regarding the instrumental aspect, ambitious lyrics, mediocre singers. It doesn’t strike me as a fundamental album; rather, it shows that the genre was approaching its end. I also look at groups without a guitarist with a certain skepticism: however, ELP, Trip, and Orme (the only ones I know; although Tagliapietra sometimes grabs the acoustic in "Collage" and "Uomo di pezza") have produced some remarkable things as well.

I haven't seen the movie, but the subject matter (the grotesque and tragic conclusion of the Nazi nightmare) and the presence of Bruno Ganz are two excellent reasons to watch it. As for the rest, I echo Telespallabob.

I don't understand the usefulness and appeal of these live performances, which seem more for the die-hard fans; on the other hand, in the '70s Elvis topped the charts with an album of monologues recorded during a concert. It seems to me that the only interesting aspect of this live event is the efforts of Jimbo's three companions to keep things together. Jim Morrison had a distinctive voice and remarkable charisma that overshadowed the other three; but while the Doors' musical proposal is unmistakable, it is also thanks to the sound created by Ray and Robbie. I would prefer that instead of scraping the bottom of the barrel by showcasing the disastrous performances from '70, they would recover some of the Doors' concerts post-Morrison. Of course, few would pay attention, since many, rather than loving the Doors, love Jim Morrison.
