Father Murphy ..And He Told Us To Turn To The Sun

oh, finally, I was eagerly waiting for your opinion, Psycho :-) look, at least for me, the more I listen to it, the more it grows..it's definitely the best Italian album of the past year and even something more..it has that destructive quality that makes it cathartic. cold score 4.5

x ZZOT: the whole "go sinister" is set on that (and I think it's one of the most beautiful pieces of the album)..it's true that generally they don't have a choral approach in the sense of multiple overlapping voices..but the fact of repeating the same line "mantrically", yes. and indeed the effect they create is often that of a "sacred choir". Hi!

Oh okay, know-it-all... good point. So, all the more reason to let me know what you think!

I absolutely agree with you both on the topic of the '90s and the cultural crisis of this decade. Nevertheless, I have carefully and consciously avoided the term "post-psychedelic," which could easily be applied to this group, for two reasons: first, they manage to maintain a coherence of intent that is already a merit in itself, considering that most of today’s so-called interesting proposals rely on a total disorganization that, in most cases, is merely superficiality. Second, I see in them a form that serves an imagination, unlike many others, including most of the new psychedelics, which, as usual, chase after who can quote better some band from the '60s. Nonetheless, it is true that, as I have written, their music is distressing in its dethronement of many typical themes of psychedelia, which are rendered in a distorted, hazy, unsettling format. However, their extremity, at least for once, is a necessary expressive requirement precisely because of everything mentioned above. Just to return to cinematic comparisons, in addition to "2001: A Space Odyssey," they also reminded me of the part in "Apocalypse Now" where the soldiers reach the end of the river before encountering Kurtz.

Dr. Fottermeyer.. I haven't heard the latest from SOOA, but knowing them a bit, I believe that Father Murphy are much more extreme, in their own way. Saputello, I think it's impossible to judge whether they sound good or bad in the traditional sense of the expression "to sound good" for a group like Father Murphy :-) anyway, let me know.

"That they are straderivati I agree" perfect, you could have stopped here. Logically speaking, I see a lot of correlation between not being able to avoid being straderivati and consequently not having enough talent and/or artistic ambition. Thus, rather than free shit, I find the argument quite consequential. And while you are probably right that my tone was presumptuous, I humbly apologize for that; when I find shit masquerading as art, I get irritated, thinking about the masterpieces (I believe) that critics have undoubtedly encountered and should therefore know what the references are to judge a quality album :-)

I didn't even remember this group of misfits. Thinking for oneself should highlight the absolute mediocrity of such a group... assuming that the "own head" is filled with some knowledge of the matter :-)

Well... all these neo-psychedelic groups seem to me variations on the theme of the Velvet Underground, with, in their case at least, the usual tendency towards ultra-eclectic and over-the-top arrangements... the substance, as usual, is either lacking or minimal... in Italy, there is a more creative psychedelia. Nevertheless, the review is spot on.
