Well, in short, in the last 15 years, there have been some innovative albums... if we go all the way to 17, which is to say 1991, we can safely claim that it’s full of innovative records. I’m very strict about them, but don't pay too much attention to that :-D ...I think they are the nemesis of my musical conception.

Of course, a mountain of words is wasted on the "record revolution"... aside from the fact that it was all too predictable that sooner or later some band would wake up and do something like this, their approach is also half a joke. The downloadable album with a pay-what-you-want format has 10 tracks, while the deluxe version has about 4 or 5 more... meh meh and again meh... as for the album, it's pure pro forma, like it's about time for them to celebrate wisely... the usual half-timed electronic beats, the same little voice that by now would have already grown tiresome... it seems to me that, showing little respect for the intelligence of their listeners, they now expect to impose the usual experimentalism that has nothing of true exploration left, reduced instead to overly predictable stylistic clichés. And little, if anything more. Pro forma indeed, they've grown old. Period.

If I had to respect the musicians in Images and Words, I could definitely say that music is dead... I prefer, I repeat, the TRUE musicians, not jesters dressed as refined heroes of the instrument. These, moreover, have no respect for the intelligence of the listener; otherwise, they wouldn’t be serving up the impressive string of clichés that they do... happy for you then... :-) I wouldn’t be at all happy to be a fan of Dream Theater.

ehm ehm, well, I won't insist, otherwise we would open discussions that could last another three years... I've already written enough about what I think of the DT in other places, if you want, go read my review about it... in any case, to clarify definitively (and very succinctly), THESE (the Battles) are musicians by definition: people who have evolved, adapted, and revolutionized their skills and experience for a specific expressive purpose. The DT are instrumentalists, not musicians. People with enormous skill, typical of session players, who have spent their lives showcasing it without ever questioning their own expressive journey (which, in fact, doesn’t exist). There can be thousands of opinions, but let’s respect true musicians, okay? ;-D

aaah, that's why your comment... you're a fan of DT :-) ..I guess you have a lot of albums to listen to, regardless of respecting everyone's tastes.. "there is music and music", precisely. This is why a band like DT is a farce and the Battles are real musicians. But maybe it takes a bit more awareness to understand it, just to circle back to the previous discussion.

who knows.. maybe it's the Battles that are really too abstract.. I'm just throwing it out there, I don't know what age and type of culture the detractors (many more than I thought) of this album/group have, but in the end, if you think about it, someone who is 20 years old now has endured almost an entire decade of post garage, post new wave, post folk etc.etc. and then they get an album like this and maybe they lose it :-D ...who knows, maybe, I don't know.

"but do me a favor" 1) what should the fact that I play in a Cure cover band have to do with anything? 2) I also play in a band where I do my own stuff, you obviously (and thankfully) cannot know my biography, so if I were you I would avoid spouting nonsense.. I always enjoy leaving space for anonymous comments, they add a bit of lighthearted idiocy to the discussion hehehe :-D see you soon!
