You probably didn't quite grasp my email, Cliff; the fact that they are inspired by it does not in any way grant them the right to draw a comparison, let alone the idea that they know more about literature than I do. I couldn't care less if they know more than I do; that's perfectly fine with me, but to say their work is comparable to that of authors like Foscolo and Leopardi is, if you allow me, completely unproven. And this is not a matter of prejudice; a comparison like that would annoy me even if we were talking about a Bruce Springsteen, that highly praised singer of the "America of the diverse." Imagine, obviously, when discussing a Black Metal group, which was born in a completely different context and has, above all, a totally different PURPOSE in its art compared to that of Foscolo or Leopardi. I reiterate, totally different PURPOSE and CONTEXT, thus incomparable.

here I disagree. As a drummer, I couldn't care less about playing like Mike Portnoy; rather, I would want to have the expressiveness (not necessarily tied to great technique, actually!) of a Maureen Tucker, or a Jimmy Chamberlin, or a Jack Irons, or many others. If, as you said, someone has enormous technical potential, I would say it's obscene to exploit it for music that is so derivative and outdated like that played by DT. Therefore, ALL THE MORE REASON they are a shitty band.

Similarly, citing authors of that genre, implicitly comparing them with the subject at hand, is a bit excessive, simply considering the fact that Rock music in general, Metal included, regardless of the subgenre in question, is fundamentally "popular" art, which, with all due respect, I don't think reaches the same style in describing any human emotion as literary figures like Foscolo or Leopardi. And this implicit comparison seemed decidedly pretentious to me. Then I wouldn't have commented at all, if not to provide a little support to Zaireeka, who was immediately attacked for his comment that was meant to be light and humorous anyway..
