X Alessio: Julie's haircut, while not being my passion, has never bothered me; on the contrary... X andreabrindisi: you'll understand the great courage in making a "non-commercial" record using the resources of a major label; this seems to me to be pure simple consistency, which is a matter that is much, much more down-to-earth. I'm talking about musical courage; I don't care if a band plays in basements or in arenas, the fact remains that the sugary ballads of Baustelle don't seem to me to be an example of particularly admirable creative effort. Certainly not more than dozens of other bands that, for that matter, don't get hyped by certain media... that's the point.

Alessio, I should have expected it! :-D I never get it right with labels, you always end up scolding me :-D ..well, at least the homesleep is historic; it’s better that it has been than not, don’t you think? As for the urtovox, now that you mention it, I have to agree with you; in fact, I can barely tolerate stuff like Mersenne or Toys Orchestra myself.. Dallas, I knew the Pork Chop Orchestra by name! Regarding the Easycure, I’m the drummer.. I also have my own band, but if you're not in Florence at the moment, there's no way you've even heard of us, because under our current name we've existed since April and we’ve just started doing a few gigs now. Let me know when you come back, maybe we’ll meet at the Viper or somewhere where it's finally not rare to hear some decent bands :-)

x Ghemison: it's true that only a few knew them back then; nonetheless, they were already what they are now: a group that, in my opinion, is far from essential. It is a fact, regardless of opinions, that today in Italy there is more courage in musical proposals than one might think, and it is equally a fact that the Baustelle don’t seem to shine with courage at all. From this, it logically follows that calling them the best Italian band today is still a load of crap, irrespective of opinions. x dallasmccoy: but where do you play? Because I also gravitate in the (more or less) independent band scene in Florence.

"Here and Now (that is, at this moment in little Italy) there is no one on the same level as this record" ..well, maybe it’s just that they are simply much more promoted than any honest band under Urtovox, Blackcandy, Seahorse, homesleep etc etc? Surely the hype (including the cover on Blow Up) seems disproportionate to me. And as usual, the question remains valid: which comes first, notoriety or quality?

Anyway, I don't think it's that bad... it seems to me that the ending is too superficial and not very clever. Still, it deserves a three.

I mostly agree... I also didn't find it to reach the excruciating clarity of Match Point. However, I don't quite get the point of your introduction, since Match Point, while not the classic Allen film, is definitely a powerful movie, and it seems you agree as well.

@c'è: I usually have the foresight not to consider the VV as such after the second album… you must agree that the change is stark and that the absence of John Cale influences it a bit (negatively)… no hard feelings, mind you ;-)
@alfredo: Because during that period, both before and after, there are at least a few hundred albums that are a bit more stimulating… if one had to learn from this and Blonde on Blonde, it would be like a nice warm minestrone good for all seasons but sooo sooo sad :-D

Thank you. Loaded would have been good to write even for Elvis Presley.. :-D and anyway VV&nico is practically contemporary to Revolver, so much earlier than that. And in any case, there are many manuals, even just pop manuals.. but then I would include more Brian Wilson, who also inspired a lot of the Beatles themselves. Ah, and as a hypothetical manual for the best song, we also forgot Piper at the gates of dawn. That one obviously kicks ass as much to the Rolling Stones as it does to the Beatles.. in short, this whole manual thing is really just a matter of time :-D

I had read about these... same old story, your review confirms it. And I don't understand how "quality" can exist without at least a minimum of creative effort; which by definition should impose at least a bit of uniqueness.
