In fact: Metal is not necessarily the "most extreme" genre. There are various punk subgenres that are just as extreme, if not more so than a lot of metal. Go listen to Snapcase or Earth Crisis for example, and then let me know.
Metal is not at all the most modern and modernizing genre; on the contrary, it often tends to be quite conservative, as many bands have been relying on the same stylistic features for 20 years.
Metal, as mentioned, is also not necessarily the most elaborate genre. Post Rock, have you ever heard of it? Check out Tortoise and then let me know, check out Mogwai or Godspeed You! Black Emperor and then let me know.
