Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

Alby alby, we're just not on the same page here.. it's pointless for you to take it so hard.. I never said you lack experience as a musician; to me, you could be the best drummer in the world. That doesn't mean you've "listened to everything." That Dream Theater are the most technical thing you've ever heard, I would never dream of questioning that.. the problem is that, you see, technique isn't everything; in fact, it's very little, and often it's nothing at all, and with your experience, you should know that.. that they are a band that "moved you" obviously means absolutely nothing.. even Pausini moves her fans, but I would never dream of calling her even "an artist" in quotes..

Then we have "Fuck": 1) I couldn't care less if Petrucci has played with Satriani and Vai... for me, he can play with whoever he wants... whether he's super technical, fast, or amazing, even the walls know that... should this have anything to do with the quality of the music he produces? Obviously not, and certainly not a priori. So your first point is absolutely pointless. 2) There are dozens of tracks I haven't mentioned, but the essence doesn't change; none of the albums I've listened to by DT are worth saving... "six degrees.." is a bit better, but it's nothing more than a pathetic attempt to seem more experimental (heavily copying from the latest King Crimson), and "falling into infinity" is a slightly less routine album, but it's just a continuous plagiarism of the sounds of the Floyd during the Alan Parsons era. 3) If you had listened to some 70s progressive music, which you clearly haven't, you would realize that Dream Theater are as original as any modern-day rock 'n roll revival band. There's not a single idea that isn't looted here and there, not a single atmosphere that hasn't already been put to music, not a time change that hasn't already been written... brush up on: Genesis (early period), King Crimson (DT copy them a little everywhere), Colosseum, Soft Machine, Gentle Giant, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Rush, and then come back to tell me where the great originality of DT lies...

For "alby the drummer": if after trying everything (though I must admit I have my doubts) the Dream Theater are the best for you, all I can say is: I pity you. A lot. I sincerely hope that you will come to know and be enchanted by far more than these five smoke sellers. After all, you're only 16, so don’t worry, you'll find your way out ; )
P.S. please, never compare the Dream Theater to the Pink Floyd again, there isn't even the slightest point of contact... not to mention the fact that, coincidentally, the Pink Floyd were anything but technical...

By the way.. I see you wrote "music is never trivial." Ha ha ha, I hope you’re joking.. according to this "theory," practically everything would be great, so let's also listen to Britney Spears or the Backstreet Boys because if nothing is trivial, they’re fine too.. there's no point in commenting further.

ALE', here this review is back in circulation, I've missed this joy! So let's begin:
Dear "a", the idea that Dream Theater is a band that "only a few can understand" is yet to be proven... rather, looking at the exceedingly low level of the comments from many who posted on this review, I wonder why it seems to be exactly the opposite! Impression? Who knows...
There's one thing I don't understand from your comment: why should I be ignorant? Did you spy on me at home and not see a single CD or vinyl? Impossible, considering I have over 600 CDs and around 100 vinyls...
So why? Have I only written reviews of trivial bands (aside from DT, undoubtedly) perhaps? I really don't think so; after all, I've reviewed Pixies, Velvet Underground, Cure, all bands that, you'll agree, have made music history...
So how did you come to this conclusion?
The only thing left for me to think is that, as many before you have done, you simply call me ignorant just because I panned a band you like... in short, a typical attitude of someone who, unfortunately, is a bit short on arguments, poor thing...

They are the ones who trivialize everything.. of the various music genres you mention (not all, though) they never capture more than the superficial interpretative form, adapting it to their sterile standards of bland and flat aestheticism.. probably the worst group on the face of the earth, the more I listen to them (rarely, fortunately) and hear them talked about, the more convinced I am.

I haven't heard the album, but "Girls just want to have fun" is an absolute masterpiece, and that's enough.
