Hey, Caz, what's the best of Kyuss for you?

Yes, but the very fact that he used the term "era" (honestly, I find it hard to think about it again, so I just assume) might not refer to gender; until proven otherwise, they are two very different terms. In any case, your response doesn't invalidate my critique. Anyway, don't take it too personally! I liked your review on the Bushes; after all, it's nice to receive negative comments too, right? Otherwise, it's such a drag; at least this way we can discuss... Bye.

Castaldo, I don't know if you noticed that I said exactly the same thing you did; the fact that it's a journalistic definition, for that matter, doesn't mean we can't use it, at least as a convenient definition; and in fact, you used it in your review as well. What I keep reiterating is that precisely because it's a, let's say, invented definition, it doesn't make sense to say that Ten isn't a Grunge album, because it isn't just like all the other albums released in Seattle during that period aren't either.

Kosmina! Thanks for the link. Oh, but this thing is taking on slightly disproportionate proportions... what's all this publicity about? Just think, we haven't even started preparing anything yet :D

I really liked this album, I liked it a lot.. I don’t know if I’d give it a 4 or even a 5, so I’ll go with a 4.. but it’s really nice, because it’s hard to define. That’s just it, the usual ingredients are there, but you can’t quite pin it down. It’s bold, as Caz said, but not only that: it’s original, very original, and starting from "vintage" foundations, which is an extra merit.. yes, it’s less massive than the previous one, less punchy, etc., but it's stranger, therefore nice.
P.S. Caz, if you ever have the misfortune of meeting me, I’ll force-feed you four 80-minute Emo compilation CDs in a row.. then we’ll see if you don’t start to appreciate it : D

Well... I didn't like this one that much.. as I've already said a thousand times, I really don't think Grunge can be defined as a genre: what do Mudhoney and Melvins, for example, have in common apart from, I admit, an extraordinary rawness? Practically nothing. From this perspective, saying that this isn't a "Grunge" album makes no sense, because you could use the same criteria to dismiss any record released in Seattle between '84 and '96. However, if you consider the term Grunge as referring to a movement, a scene of bands that all emerged (almost) in the same area during the same time period and share SOME common traits (like, for example, blending different styles, such as punk and hard rock, and having a pretty crossover and open-minded view of rock), then this is definitely a Grunge album; moreover, as you yourself mentioned, Gossard and Ament were part of two of the first notable bands from Seattle.. More Grunge than them.. Regardless of this, I find Ten to be the least favorite of the PJ albums, perhaps aside from the last two; I see it as the least original and personalized, but of course, this is all subjective. Bye

You really got me hooked on the old Quins too.. R is actually really nice! Personally, I preferred those rough guys from Kyuss. Kosmina, did you manage to download it? I'm just finishing it up now, let me know, and I’ll send it your way if needed!

Everything is right and great... everything except for that statement, "a blend of metal and hardcore," which I find reductive... they transcend the genres too much.
