Dream Theater Live Scenes From New York

mmmm, nice review, varied and different from all the others.. : D we're already on the second live of this one. Who's going to do the third? I might even jump back in... ; ) ah the album is truly mind-numbingly boring.. the trouble is they’re so unnecessarily precise that they recreate it exactly as in the studio, just with some forced variation just to make everyone say: "hey, great! Did you hear that version?" terribly pointless. bye : )

But what kind of talk is it if an original band sucks? If a band is original, it might suck for you, but objectively it will still be a respectable band precisely because it is original. You are confusing personal opinions (and in this case, anything can suck or be liked regardless of actual quality) with criteria for judgment that aim to be (more or less) objective. We are clearly talking about two different things... think about it, think about it ; )

There is no such thing: if a group is original, it deserves respect; there is no art without originality, but there is art without technique. I would be curious, anonymous, to know what this "original crap" would be... and I would also be curious to know your criteria for evaluation.. what would that be? Originality, personality, and innovation are fundamental for anything that wants to be defined as artistic. What is art, what is especially creativity if not exactly breaking free from established patterns, stepping out of the "already written" and "already said"? Absolutely impeccable.

this is beautiful! much, much better than IV, which for me is the worst, absolutely unbearable. This has more in common with III, in my opinion, which was diverse and light (and beautiful!)

Well, Hum, for now it's better if you download it, what do you care? ;)
Korn Greatest vol.1

How does one create a greatest hits album for Korn? It's already a joke in general, let alone for a band like theirs... for me, starting from "issues" onward, they could just celebrate...

I’ve heard it more than once; the problem is this: in my opinion, there’s no track that holds up to "like eating glass." I mean, that track is really a bomb; tight, masterfully performed, original, it has the great merit of finally establishing a characteristic sound for this decade, because in its blend of funk, rock, and sounds modified by electronics, it has no usual references to the '80s or the '70s, but instead directly recalls The Strokes (listen to the guitars) or The Rapture (the intensity and "drama" of the track), reinterpreting them and playing independently. At the risk of exaggeration, it feels like I’m truly hearing the first track of the 2000s, and not some decades-old song merely "transferred" to our times. But from "helicopter" (inclusive) onwards? Routine, so much routine; many crowd-pleasing choruses, many flashy sounds, very little inventiveness, standards just above mediocrity... what a shame... maybe the next album will be an absolute masterpiece, but it could also very well be total crap, because this debut is halfway there... a good part of the rating lies in the first 4 minutes of the album.
