no no, nitrors, I’m not saying that "like eating glass" doesn’t have its references.. but it seems to me a more modern and personal piece compared to the rest of the album..

I'm still not clear: the objectivity you’re talking about would be given by the fact that all the magazines speak well of it? And what does that have to do with it? Any review is, until proven otherwise, an opinion.. in any case, beyond what they say in the newspapers (and frankly, I recommend it to you too, it's always better to form your own idea), it seems quite OBJECTIVE to me that this album invents absolutely nothing at all, and indeed is rather retro and banal in its focus on revival; just listen to it, nothing more. Moreover, if you read a lot of articles and various critiques, you will easily realize how they waste the titles of album of the year, masterpieces, fantastic albums, even when OBJECTIVELY we are talking about at least embarrassing stuff like Keane or Coldplay.. the point is that OBJECTIVELY in these years so little "good" (in the sense of new, in the sense of original, in the sense of not being a copy of this or that) has been released, that just an album slightly more lively than the one by FF is enough to scream masterpiece.. but the masterpieces are others.. I have yet to hear a new "spiderland" or a new "loveless", or a new "the downward spiral", or a new "vitalogy", or a new "blues for the red sun" or a new "Mezzanine", etc. etc. and since we're talking about albums that are at most ten/fifteen years old, I don’t think it’s impossible to hope to hear something at that level again; consequently, for me to define as a masterpiece a "little record" like that of FF is really out of this world. Period.

Eh Bloom, I’m not saying it’s not a fun track.. of course, when you play it, it gets you in a good mood too ;) ..and it’s more or less the case for all tracks.. but it’s one of those records that after two listens, maybe three, I piled it up on the side, quite annoyed by the lack of substance. One of those things that just doesn’t stand the test of time, "disposable" to put it simply.. it’s only really worth the duration of a video on MTV.. I would never dream of calling it album of the year or anything like that.

If it weren't for this EP, what a great career! Three little gems.

.."(you didn't see the time when someone would call you intellectualoids so you could respond with the Beach Boys' tune!! it's pretty clear..)".. well, frankly, nitrors, all this clarity seems to exist only in your mind. I responded quite spontaneously and, once again, just to give an example... frankly, the fact that this is the ONLY negative review of Franz Ferdinand makes me happy. Moreover, that's not true. There are some critics who have simply considered this album for what it is: nothing exceptional. Period. If your reference point is the English criticism from NME or some other similar nonsense, I am TWICE as happy to disagree. Besides that, your argument is limited: "there are albums that objectively have something more".. what? explain it to us! It's not clear to me at all. The opposite is clear; that is to say, this is an album that has everything except "that something more," and if one knows even a little about the history of rock '75-'84, they'll notice it within two clear notes of the clever little single "take me out" (which applies to any other track on the album, obviously).

Thank you, Josi! : ) This was my first review! There's one thing I don't understand and probably never will. Why if someone doesn't like bands like Franz Ferdinand, they have to be labeled as an "intellectual"? I don't know, it's incomprehensible. I really love bands like the Beach Boys, who I believe are the most blatantly commercial and far from intellectuals that exist. Nevertheless, the Beach Boys were CREATIVE (I won't always admit it, some albums are just terrible and after '68 they could have quit), but still, they created something, that's for sure. I really love, for another example, The Strokes, what do they have that’s intellectual? It's simply rock 'n roll! But at least The Strokes put a bit of taste, sound, and personal interpretation into their songs (another distinction: is this it. Because in Room on Fire they sound like a cover of themselves). Another example: I would literally burn the Muse alive; I can't stand their pointless arrogance, pointless since they're a group of second-rate musicians posing as "refined" interpreters when they are utterly useless. And even Interpol have shown themselves to be quite useless by now. That said, Franz Ferdinand suck, no snobbery here, it’s just really easy to do covers, too easy; no one is stopping you, that's obvious (I also play in a cover band, for real!), just don’t pass them off as a great band.

It's a nice genre called: "I do '80s covers."

the more I hear it, the more it falls flat for me. If these are supposed to be the revelations.. I give it a 2.5. However, I can confirm that the first track of the album is a great piece!
