No, I agree. The Cure have always been pop! And even if you don’t consider Pornography pop, they have definitely been since "Let's Go to Bed."

Well, sorry, what does it matter that they didn't care until a year later... then the year mattered, right? Of course it did, way too much! Grunge bands might not have invented anything, no innovation, but they are definitely original. Because it’s obvious that the Melvins draw from Black Sabbath, but it’s equally obvious how they reinterpret them in a decidedly different way. Original bands, always those from the '60s and '70s... but since when? Not necessarily. And what about Sonic Youth? And Slint, My Bloody Valentine, Tortoise, Massive Attack, NIN, Fugazi, then? Come on...

Come on, Cornell, of all people! Let’s not say heresies! Back then, the States were FULL of original stuff. In California, among those useless wannabes, there were Faith No More, RHCP, Jane's Addiction, experimenting with crossover. Indie was everywhere, with REM, Sonic Youth, Husker Du, Pixies, and dozens of other bands. In Seattle, how could you forget, a ton of bands were already emerging… but come on, amidst all this, the posers and jerks were the most neglected and useless wannabes imaginable. Pure commerce. Crap.

Well, I was referring to Guns N' Roses in general. In "Appetite for Destruction," you’re right, they’re just Aerosmith covers and that’s it! :D But yes, Slash does have his own style (which is, by the way, VERY much devoted to other guitarists, Joe Perry first and foremost), but the original style of a single element of the band (even Axl) isn’t enough to bring out original stuff. The logic remains the same: a super catchy riff, verse-chorus-solo, a mega-melodic vocal line, great energy, and everyone’s happy. The SAME logic as the pseudo hard 'n roll of Aerosmith and, as you rightly noted, AC/DC. I mean, it’s TOTAL USELINESS, unless it's aimed at selling millions of copies, obviously.

buahahahahahahah, right! : )))) Thank you Devon, you made me discover something I hadn't noticed in the marvelous comment of the anonymous idiot.. So Gilmour at the time of Piper at the gates of dawn would have listened to the Beatles, huh? Oh yes, too bad that at the time of Piper at the gates of Dawn Gilmour wasn’t even playing with the Floyd and especially too bad that 90% of the album was composed by a certain Roger, but not Waters.. guess who that is, anonymous? Buahahahahahah, blessed ignorance! I mean, what a ridiculous figure you make the swarm of DT fans look like??!! : ))) Bye Dev ; )

Dear Cornell, with all due respect, who the hell cares about how it’s written… ; ) But seriously, where do you see all this personality, originality, character? I mean, these are practically the least applicable adjectives to an album like that. Basically, GandR can be summed up as: Aerosmith + piano, which is very glam (i.e., tacky) '80s. What luck! And don’t come telling me that the big riffs of Slesc and the vocal runs of Asl don’t directly borrow from the Toxic Twins (who, honestly, I also thought were a bit crap, and they came out a good 15 years before Gansendrosis), but sometimes it feels like you’re listening to a cover band… what a pointless group Gensundroses!!

Yes, you summed it up well. It's the album of a businessman. More "sly" than anything else, so 4 stars are too many.
