Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

useless advice. already listened to both. Awake is one of the most useless things produced by the band in question. I mean the uselessness of uselessness... I have no idea what is trivial and what is not? well... maybe... sure, said by someone who considers the melodies of DT much less trivial than those of REM... too bad though that REM were among the most original, important, and influential bands of the '80s.. adjectives certainly not equally applicable to DT, who until proven otherwise have not revolutionized, let alone influenced anything... from here I feel like there's really no comparison between those who can boast a more noteworthy songwriting... I think you should review and listen again for a moment.. ; )

Anonymous, you have a rather schematic vision, but the point is: I didn't say that melodies have to be dissonant... a melody can be extraordinarily melodic, but that doesn’t mean it’s trivial... REM built a career on extraordinarily communicative melodies, yet there's NOT A SINGLE one, I mean NOT A SINGLE one that can be defined as trivial.. do you understand? Not even ONE.. they have style, they are original, they are interesting, they are evocative, they are wonderful, and they are extraordinarily melodic but NOT trivial.. because they don't resemble anyone, because they don't use cliché chord progressions in a predictable way, because they don't evoke with easy and rhetorical melodies, because they don’t sing with that artificial, unnecessary theatricality, yet with all this they are extraordinarily melodic... Of course, it's an EXAMPLE., I could mention another 200 bands of that kind..

very nice review.. but the album doesn't attract me.. not because it's Italian eh...;-) it's this alt country stuff that doesn't sit well with me

that's exactly where we don't get along, damn.. when I talk about disassembling and reassembling, I mean something completely different.. when I read your sentence, groups that succeed in the intent with millions of light-years more substance immediately came to mind.. I think of Captain Beefheart, the Red Crayola, the Royal Trux of Twin Infinitives, Slint of Tweez... much, much less technique, and yet they too disassemble and reassemble, but the outcome changes in meaning based on its determinants, it doesn’t just hang there without processing anything.. more than a collage, the Elii seem to me at the level of a children's puzzle, one of those with ten pieces and that's it, so primitive is their mishmash of genres stylistically... and it’s true, my default is also hatred, I won’t hide it ; ) and yet...

As usual... if you criticize a group, the equation suggests that you "have never heard them"... at least it's irrational, don't you think? I even sat through a concert of theirs, it went quite well, even though I've never really liked them. I've listened to more than one album, and for me, the best remains the soundtrack of "tutti gli uomini del deficiente," the least self-referential, the least useless. I reiterate that even in terms of lyrics, I find more sense, and attention to sense, not meaning, in those of the Skiantos... apart from that, I repeat, I don't care whether they are nonsensical or not; I'm making a more distant consideration: they're hot air.

Beautiful soundtrack.. I won't comment on the movie... I just say that 5/5 wouldn't be enough for me..

And then what you see as being unique, I see as being nothing… in fact, they don’t resemble anyone because they are "diffused"... they mix myriad of generic quotes, but there’s no style. I don’t feel Les's bass when I hear that (useless) monster by Faso… Les has style, the Primus are super technical with personality, they are soldiers, pure executors sent to war by the super music school that generated them.
