Franz Ferdinand You Could Have It So Much Better

Two: if I had dismissed this album just because I was irritated by A review, it wouldn't explain why I already panned the first EP touted as a masterpiece by the four Scottish dandy's about a year and a half ago. In the review, I mentioned more reviews irresponsibly celebrating the tawdry operetta in question, and I believe I justified my opinion, something that, coincidentally, you don't seem to have considered at all.

You were probably a bit inattentive... One, the thing you call a "stuck-up attitude," is an old, bland excuse used by those who try to "protect" themselves when they see the group listening but don’t really know how to counter the arguments expressed. I call it, as I did in the review, a righteous refusal to support and adapt to the dismal acceptance of mediocrity that magazines and TV (now with less and less distinction) promote these days. I do not accept it, because I have heard albums that can be confidently defined as masterpieces, and quite a few of them. How can I then accept this shabby, citation-heavy pop that plagiarizes itself, and therefore is banal, flat, and irritating as such? I refuse, I cannot, and I make my viewpoint known.

I didn't like it... it didn't inspire me the way the album does when I listen to it, especially because it's such a rich and incredible record, which, I acknowledge, is quite difficult, if not impossible, to describe, let alone interpret (with this, I refer to a critique, indeed fair though somewhat presumptuous, that Mr. Iko gave regarding my review of White Light White Heat). And then, it’s really too long, especially compared to the essence of the matter, which isn’t much... the descriptions of the tracks in particular could have been much more impactful, even though, in my opinion, it would have been better not to focus on each individual piece, but perhaps to try to say something broader (among the many things to say) about the album as a whole... anyway, sorry if I’m being a bit harsh; usually, these are the things that I hate in my own reviews, which, in the end, remain perspectives that are always respectable in themselves. It’s just that this is an album I care about deeply, perhaps the most beautiful one that has ever been conceived, and so it deserves a bit more demanding expectations... bye.

Well, judging by your comment, it seems like you’re really into freebasing, my friend ; ) ...basically, I still don’t understand what you want from me. If it was just to ask if I used to do coke, the answer is: maybe in the past, but for the rest, I don’t know what to tell you, if it makes you happy. : )

I heard the first one, which is an interesting interpretation of Fugazi's post-hardcore, but overall I don't think they have much talent.

Yes, I found it! In fact, it's quite easy to find, at least on Soluseek it's almost more common than the official album. Anyway, it seems to me that the setlists of the two are almost totally different...

But you know, you've really intrigued me. Now I'm looking. But what should I type? Just the name of the group or do I need to write something else to get this demo?

Great suggestion! I will download it right away.

hop Guglielmo, a bit of imagination.. : ) I know it doesn’t quite fit, but it was an example of Pop music (because "the Wedding" is pop in every sense) and not pathetically commodified. bye

Guglielmo, I should be 17 years old, but you are even younger... because it’s really easy to see how obvious it is that everyone is influenced by someone else. This is such a trite statement that I took it for granted. But it’s equally obvious that there are influences and influences, there are pseudo-plagiarisms, and then there is creativity, there is courage, there is innovation, there are so many things when it comes to art. Given all this, quite unimpeachable, the conclusion one logically reaches is the usual one: this is a group that deserves to fade into oblivion (which, in fact, is likely to happen soon, perhaps after another couple of albums). Because it’s not culture, it’s not art, it’s just bland entertainment, not even very successful in that regard, probably suitable for those who have a knowledge of rock that doesn’t extend back beyond 2001, and even that is quite limited. Conversely, the discourse you make about melody is totally banal; it's so obvious that perhaps it would have been better for you not to bring it up: of course, having a communicative approach is important, but there have been bands that have used a strongly communicative approach as a pretext to make art. Without having to mention sacred monsters, I think of XTC, or if you prefer something more recent, the latest Oneida... just listen to a few bands, it doesn’t take much, and the creative poverty of FF becomes a fact.
