Elliott Smith Either/or

I've never wanted to delve into Elliot Smith... but now I'm getting into it.

you didn't get it, primiballi, and your six question marks, not to mention your sour tone, would suggest that the only "little hysteric" here is you, think about it... : ) anyway, I just wanted to point out that OBVIOUSLY you hadn't been following the discussion.. just as OBVIOUSLY you hadn't noticed that at least I was actually starting from comments completely relevant to the album; equally obviously, we weren't discussing, I don't know, Spandau Ballet.. we were still talking about springsteen... so, to put it bluntly, there’s really no need to make such a fuss.

I don't know if you're aware of how concert earnings work... evidently not: the biggest profits for any promoter come from sponsors... with ticket sales, whether it's 10% or 50%, they barely cover the costs... Woodstock '94, with 500,000 attendees, would have gone bankrupt before it even started if it weren't for the sponsors... it's the sponsors that make everything happen... now, do you have any idea what kind of advertising can revolve around a Springsteen concert? I think you do. Draw your own conclusions.

Primiballi, as it's evident, you arrived a bit late to the discussion, so before launching into the usual pseudo-"I rise above the average" pontifications, I suggest you reread the entire thread of posts. As far as I'm concerned, my first post, which is also post number three, was completely relevant to the album; now I was just responding to the discussion that had developed afterward.

90% net goes to him and not the organization. Do you understand? Then he can earn about 60%-70% net from that 90%, I don't know and it's not remotely relevant, but from the total ticket price, 90% goes to HIM, and 10% goes to THE ORGANIZATION. It's not very difficult; it's basic statistics. The sources are the Rai Uno service for the concert in Rome. I’m sorry to ruin your romantic view, but that’s how it is..

If it's for noble purposes, Bruce Springsteen was making 90% net on the ticket prices of his last fantastic tour with the E-Street Band... and it's not like he was exactly charging family-friendly prices for those in need. Furthermore, I think his fans misunderstood the term "rhetorical"... at least I wasn't referring to the lyrical aspect, but rather the musical one, which remains the same old stuff full of stylistic clichés and various over-familiar references that are often in poor taste.

It's not that Bruce Springsteen is my passion, but this is an album I wanted to listen to, because of the enormous hype surrounding its release... and I found it musically mediocre, and I say this because I firmly believe in pop as an art form. A couple of songs are truly filled with that "passion" that made him so famous, but the rest is just a lot of embarrassing rhetoric (speaking from a strictly musical standpoint). He has never been a genius, and even regarding the genealogy of American singer-songwriter tradition, it seems he has little left to say, let alone to consider him a "rocker"...

But there’s one thing I don’t understand, Geenoo, just one: at the moment it was established that Caz intended a certain set in the definition of Rock, a very exclusive set let's admit it, but clear and defined, why insist with eight hundred and fifty posts shouting scandal? I mean, that’s his starting point, he made it clear, right?

In my opinion, the hardcore revolution of the late '80s was a beautifully "simple" revolution... bands like Unrest, Fugazi, Rites of Spring had a completely non-canonical way of interpreting the song, absolutely 360° without trying the card of "mixing" (or at least, blending everything in a truly unusual way)... Of course, following Caz's logic, maybe this isn't rock either... from that perspective, I think the only (and last) true form of modernity was the Pixies of Surfer Rosa... and perhaps (because the use of sounds is absolutely rock) Shoegazer.
