Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

Oh anyway Orion, if you really want to cut to the chase: minute 4 second 11 of "the spirit.." :-D

I listened to that piece, and I confirm: to me, it sounds like a piano bar singer, impeccable, of course, technically speaking, but really, really lacking in style, quite flat. I would never define a singer like that as recognizable or expressive; if you consider him to be so, I don't see the basis for it, but... de gustibus.

Ah, one last thing, Orion.. you clearly overlooked my post where I responded to your supposed "corrections" to the examples: let me summarize it for you. 1) In the first "correction," you merely emphasized a marginal contextual error, failing to deny the substance of the argument. 2) In the second "correction," regarding the solo, you changed the subject, making a general remark that didn't actually correct anything in my example. 3) The third "correction" you made turned out to be a tragic error on your part, the classic case of shooting yourself in the foot, since you completely misunderstood my reference and were unable to refute my TRUE reference at all, having given no further response. Frankly, I don't see all these "corrections" :-) .. but if it pleases you to continue considering them such :-D

anonymous, poor thing, you still haven't realized that it takes a lot to even try to corner me into "not knowing what to say" ... a whole lot, you can only dream of it eheheh :-D ..I bet you would have liked that, huh? not a chance, you poor fool ahahahah :-D

hahaha :-) how heated you get about LaBrie.. that he’s technically extraordinary, nobody doubts it. But at an interpretative level, he is truly lacking.. he has an absolutely standardized, “clean” approach, giving not an ounce of true expressive soul to what he sings, because he has such an amorphous voice that it’s barely recognizable tonally, it’s not warm, it’s not hoarse, it’s flat and lacking in character, beyond the range. I believe he is perfectly suited to the style, absolutely in line, in fact... :-)

But what does it have to do with it?? Just because I make assertions like that you won’t share your opinion? :-D ..but then excuse me, what are you doing here criticizing for dozens of posts? If you didn’t want to go to that "level," you could have just ended it with "your opinion, I don’t agree" ..so I find your critical insistence even more unjustified.. as for finding the exact minute, I won't even think about it. I don’t have to justify anything here, I expressed my opinion and gave an example. It’s you who is trying to justify that what I said doesn’t hold up, but in that case, it’s you who has to bring any counter-evidence, not me.

The Who are not from "a couple of years prior"; The Who debuted in 1965, and just listening to "My Generation" makes it clear who Bonham drew inspiration from. A more instinctive and aggressive drum sound than that, with the bass drum playing eighth notes and the ride cymbal struck like a crash, has truly few equals throughout the 1960s. You mention the magazine "Modern Drummer," but all the more your argument is a senseless statistic. It's an ultra-specialized magazine, read only by drummers, and especially by those drummers for whom anything that doesn't meet a certain technical standard is meaningless. Thus, it excludes such a wide range of musicians, enthusiasts, and industry professionals that it becomes nonsensical. It is not an average; it is one of the possible averages, and effectively nullifies the possibility that based on THAT average, my judgment might seem extreme. It doesn’t hold up.

I’ve just discovered both this review and the album now, and you know what? It’s one of the most convincing and (finally) original things I’ve heard in a long time! Moreover, it’s also appealing on an international level… beautiful.
