mmmm, I agree with you about the quality of the album (even though after repeated listens I've come to the conclusion that it works better live)..however, I believe that the blues of the blacks has nothing to do with it..his is an operation of deconstruction, at most it can relate to the blues in the same way that Beefheart did..nevertheless, it's a great operation of "formal upheaval"..I think the next step is for this music to truly become narrative.

It's not bad, but it's completely frivolous..essentially, it doesn't tell me anything other than inspiring curiosity for its deviant arrangements and its strange melodies..which, however, convey absolutely nothing from a purely musical standpoint.

I've always thought they were a farce.. the first album had some nice tracks, anyway.

Yes, I mean no; in the sense that you don't write very clearly :-) (so you really meant '97, but then you didn't mean debut, okay).. I think I understand the general direction anyway, talking about intellectual music or using intellectual terms for DT is the most misleading thing one can imagine.. it's hard for me to think of a group less intellectual (and more false in that sense) than them.. with thousands of artists who have instead been intellectual even just in prog (I think of a lot of Canterbury).. Danverlaine, all cleared up, and opinions should always be respected! Bye!

x rock anthology: the dream theater were not avant-garde when they debuted (late '80s) let alone now. I don't understand what they have to do with punk.

x Danverlaine, you are absolutely right, of course.. and I don't consider you at all (like no one else, aside from a few impeccable exceptions) the usual "mama's boy".. however, allow me to say.. you try to push me to give a more subjective judgment, when yours was, foremost, not one (which I must say, kind of "irritated" me).. the fact that you refer to a piece as "without a doubt" among the best of the '90s, and that one must bow to this group without any other options made me smile a bit.. not for nothing, but even if we ignore judgments, there are dozens of groups that are 3 billion times more significant than DT in the '90s. Just for the fact, without judgments, that they play something which, by definition, is a mix of two genres that had already been done by then (of which, aside from the mix itself, they objectively renew practically nothing), while in the '90s there were brilliant bands with quadruple guts that produced absolute and totally avant-garde records, or modern ones, or a thousand times more original, and/or a thousand times more influential. Thus, before speaking, one should have knowledge, not that this is your case, eh.. I'm speaking generally regarding statements like the above. Bye!

"Dream Theater evoke much more emotion in me than many other bands." "I personally adore them and I believe that in all their albums they have managed to express great emotions." "The technique serves the composition and the emotions." Ahah genius!

"One of the masterpieces of Progressive Metal, an album that still enjoys a brilliant beauty today, where technique serves composition and emotions." :-D but really, just the usual stories.. a training course? heheheheh
