I don't quite agree with the formula "Despair - Resignation - Anguish" ... there can be moments of despair and anguish, but I don't see resignation in her ethereal sweetness... on the contrary, it seems to me that her songs inspire stillness, a tremendously defenseless artist, but who in such dense and dynamic pieces always seeks a catharsis, a liberation. Therefore, these tracks are even full of hope.

Yes, indeed.. but by now "indie" is a trendy word, everything is indie, as long as it's rock'n roll, it's indie. A little refresher on what "indie" used to be would be nice; Bloc Party are obviously light years away.

In my opinion, as I already wrote, indie has precise and quite strong connotations. I believe these are even more important today, as the word "Indie" is carelessly passed off for mediocre groups, meaning everything or nothing at all. But indie is interpretative freedom, it’s what Cobain referred to as punk, it’s intimate and restless psychedelia, it’s the song at its maximum possible expansion, it’s noise serving melody, and melody serving emotion. It certainly isn’t a genre, but it is definitely an attitude and thus a movement: its greatness lies precisely in not including based on the presence or absence of a stylistic feature, but on the personal interpretation of an attitude that makes expansion its only true term (obviously in the best cases it becomes greater). For this reason, it is perhaps one of the deepest and most substantial expressions of rock as an art form.

Oh right, the rating for the review: the first part is a bit superficial, but in the second you seem very relevant. Here’s a solid 4 for you.

I listened to the whole album and it seemed like a colossal piece of crap to me... the obvious proof that the hype around this band was, as usual, exaggerated.

Nice review.. I'm in the air above New York, so it seems like a really interesting proposal.

Beautiful! For me, it might be the most beautiful of all the Zep albums, in my humble opinion immensely better than IV, a baroque recap of what the Zep had said in the first three. "Friends" is also, for me, their most beautiful piece, great John Paul Jones.

accidempolina, I didn't even know this existed... After a while, I find it hard to like Pavement too much, because their crooked songs almost become "non-songs," but their attitude remains for me one of the most perfect and brilliant in rock.
