great review and great album (4.5/5 for me).. however, after listening to a lot in that field, there's nothing, absolutely nothing, that reaches Loveless. still, this one definitely deserves to be called a masterpiece; indeed, looking closely, as always when a genre becomes mainstream (at least to the larger alternative audience), there aren't that many truly valid Shoegaze/dream pop bands out there..

Um, I admit I haven't listened to much of that genre (I share your thoughts on the photocopies of the DTs, which are themselves photocopies of some other dozen groups), but I don't agree with many of your thoughts on progressive. In my opinion, it carries intrinsic flaws; therefore, both the "search for the new" and "structural evolution" and, more than ever, "sonic evolution" are definitely more significant elements in other domains... Without taking anything away from the undeniable masterpieces of the genre.

Nice review! (I also read the interesting comment you posted on mine) ..but I stick to my opinion; I don’t understand why you talk about ā€œsterile and unconscious relativismā€.. it almost seems like in front of maddeningly difficult works, it’s mandatory to bow one’s head. I prefer to believe in the higher value of those who have produced masterpieces without necessarily letting their delirious ego overflow, which is something one can legitimately not care about :-)

Well, in my opinion, if he sang in English and the lyrics were less understandable, it would be immensely more boring. Instead, I don't think there's much "prejudice," rather a bit of astonishment at the buzz he's gained for some unclear miraculous reason, given that (at least for me) I don't perceive any particular signals of novelty or depth. Of course, this is just my opinion... "Italian quality music" is now so many, countless things; if I had seen Father Murphy on the cover of Blow Up instead of him, I would have been much less surprised and much more optimistic about the future of Italian music.

Well well... Snowflake has already given me the impression of a cloying and presumptuous little opera by a snobbish group... just imagine this based on your description... I prefer Deserter Songs to the early ones, but one must admit that the first albums were from a group of completely anarchic (creatively) madmen... looking at their trajectory, not only are the last albums useless, but they’re also very, very annoying.

I don't know, maybe I just don't get it... but it didn't make that big of an impression on me. I understand, though, that someone with a style like his shines more in person.

X icnarf: you're not wrong in either case :-) ..yes, it seems that they played in Bergamo in unsuspecting times; and yes, I agree with you that it’s absolutely nerve music.. but also brainy, in my opinion.. very instinctive in its approach, but also very reasoned in its underlying conception, which is not a bad thing at all. What I wanted to say, anyway, is that blues is a pretext. It could have been something else, it serves a function, by its own admission (of Samuel Katarro I’m talking about) decidedly post-modern. Furthermore, I recently read an interview where he admitted that he arrived at blues retrospectively; without particularly knowing or loving anything of that genre.
